Job Overview: The Agricultural and Gender Specialist position is crucial for implementing tasks related to climate adaptation and gender inclusion in agriculture. The role involves close collaboration with various stakeholders, including the FAO representative, Agronomist, Climate Adaptation Specialist, and Ministry of Agriculture staff. The specialist will be responsible for establishing a cadre of Climate Wise Women change agents and training farmers in climate-resilient production practices. This position requires a strong focus on agricultural extension, social inclusion, technology transfer, and rural development, with a specific emphasis on gender-related activities. The specialist will also coordinate field missions and ensure the successful implementation of Farmer Field Schools (FFS) and other agricultural initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities: The incumbent will undertake several key tasks, including: 1) Supervising climate change adaptation (CCA) and gender-related activities under the BRCCJ project, coordinating with the project team and service providers to develop detailed work plans for field missions. 2) Supporting the selection of 200 Climate Wise Women by collaborating with committee members and ensuring adherence to selection criteria. 3) Facilitating training sessions for the selected Climate Wise Women, providing guidance and monitoring progress. 4) Implementing FFS activities in collaboration with the Agronomist and Climate Adaptation Specialist, ensuring effective field-level operations. 5) Reporting on progress monthly to the PMU team and CTA, highlighting achievements and challenges encountered during implementation.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, agronomy, or a related field. They should have at least one year of proven working experience at the field level, specifically in agriculture, gender, climate change, and water use efficiency activities. A working knowledge of English and Arabic at level C is mandatory. Additionally, candidates must be nationals of Jordan or hold a residency permit.
Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, agronomy, or a related field is required for this position. This educational background provides the necessary foundation for understanding agricultural practices, climate adaptation strategies, and gender issues within the agricultural sector.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of one year of relevant experience working at the field level. This experience should include direct engagement with farmers and involvement in projects related to climate change adaptation, water management in agriculture, and women's empowerment initiatives. Practical experience in guiding and supporting agricultural activities is essential for success in this role.
Languages: Proficiency in both English and Arabic is mandatory for this position, with a working knowledge at level C. This bilingual requirement is crucial for effective communication with local stakeholders and for the successful implementation of project activities. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not mandatory.
