Job Overview: The EmergencyCoordinator position is crucial for the WFP Country Office in Chad, particularly in response to the ongoing influx of refugees from Sudan. The selected candidate will play a vital role in strengthening the field operational capacity to scale up WFP's response in Adre, ensuring that emergency responses are timely, efficient, and effective. This role involves direct collaboration with the head of the Area Office based in Abeche and requires a strong understanding of emergency field operations. The Emergency Coordinator will be responsible for implementing WFP’s emergency response to the Sudanese crises, focusing on providing food assistance to Sudanese refugees, Chadian returnees, and the host population. The position demands a proactive approach to emergency preparedness and response, ensuring that WFP's interventions are agile and integrated into the broader humanitarian response framework.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead and coordinate the emergency team in Adre/Farchana to ensure the effective implementation of WFP's Emergency Response.
Contribute to emergency response planning, including assessments, contingency planning, and scenario building to ensure operational readiness.
Oversee the mobilization and management of risks associated with WFP operations, ensuring the safety of staff and beneficiaries.
Coordinate WFP's emergency response with other UN agencies, local authorities, and NGOs at the field level.
Facilitate internal coordination with other WFP units such as supply chain, RAM, CBT, and nutrition to ensure timely implementation of emergency response plans.
Assess emerging requirements and feasibility for incorporating them into the emergency response based on the humanitarian situation.
Participate in inter-agency coordination and lead working groups related to food security and cash and markets.
Analyze risks in complex conflict environments and implement risk mitigation measures.
Monitor and evaluate the impact of emergency response activities on conflict dynamics and gender equality, incorporating lessons learned into future programming. 1

Required Qualifications: Candidates must have at least 3 years of experience in humanitarian assistance, emergency preparedness and response, or related activities, particularly in emergency contexts involving displaced populations and vulnerable groups. Experience in coordinating with various partners across functional areas is essential. Candidates should have contributed to implementing activities related to programs, supply chain, cash-based transfers, and emergency operations. Technical knowledge of emergency coordination and analytical skills for developing emergency preparedness and response operations are required. Experience in delivering training and capacity-building for field operations is also necessary, along with a collaborative approach to working with diverse humanitarian actors, including governments, NGOs, and UN agencies. A strong understanding of food security programming, particularly with WFP or its partners, is a significant asset.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree in social sciences, public administration, law" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">international law, public health, international relations, logistics, supply chain management, business administration, or related fields is preferred. Alternatively, a first university degree with additional relevant work experience and/or advanced training or courses may be acceptable.
Experience: Candidates should possess a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in humanitarian assistance, emergency preparedness and response, or related fields. This experience should include substantial field-based work in emergency contexts, particularly with displaced populations and vulnerable groups. Experience in coordinating with various internal and external partners across functional areas is crucial, as is a background in implementing emergency operations and programs.
Languages: Fluency in English (level C) and French is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, enhancing communication and coordination with diverse stakeholders in the field.
