Job Overview:
The Strategic Communications and Advocacy Officer position at the WHO Country Office in Bangladesh is designed to enhance the visibility and impact of WHO's work. The officer will be responsible for developing compelling human-interest stories and high-quality communication materials for both print and digital platforms. This role involves strategic advocacy and partner engagement, working closely with WHO teams, government agencies, UN entities, and development partners to bolster WHO's credibility and outreach. The officer will play a crucial role in translating technical health content into engaging narratives, thereby promoting WHO's achievements and initiatives effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Content Development & Storytelling: The officer will create engaging stories and communication products that highlight WHO's impact, translating complex technical content into accessible narratives while documenting key successes and lessons learned.
  • Visibility and Resource Mobilization: Responsibilities include designing brochures, infographics, and visual content to enhance program visibility and advocacy efforts. The officer will also support the development of funding proposals and donor reports that showcase WHO's results and impact.
  • Speechwriting & Messaging: The officer will review and refine speeches, PowerPoint presentations, and messages for the WHO Representative and senior leadership for significant events and campaigns.
  • Technical and Advocacy Products: The officer will proofread and edit various strategic communication and advocacy documents, ensuring they are result-oriented and effectively convey WHO's messages.
  • Website and Digital Engagement: The officer will facilitate timely and engaging content for WHO Bangladesh's website and social media platforms, tracking analytics to adjust strategies as necessary.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: The officer will support the NPO-Communications in coordinating with government, other UN agencies, media, and partners to ensure consistent messaging and collaborative communication efforts.
  • Additional Assignments: The officer will undertake any other tasks as requested by the supervisor, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic work environment.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with a proven ability to create engaging content. They should demonstrate creativity and adaptability in their approach to communication and advocacy. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously are essential. The ideal candidate should also exhibit professionalism and self-management in their work.

Educational Background:
A degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or specialized training in health communication or advocacy would be advantageous. Candidates should have a solid understanding of public health issues and the role of communication in health promotion.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in communications, public relations, or advocacy, preferably within the health sector or international organizations. Experience in content development, stakeholder engagement, and resource mobilization is highly desirable. Familiarity with digital communication strategies and analytics is also important.

Languages:
Fluency in Bengali is mandatory, as it is the official language of Bangladesh. Proficiency in English is also required, as it is the working language of UN agencies. Knowledge of additional languages would be considered an asset.
