Job Overview:
The position of Individual Consultant - Project Consultant for the National Report 7 involves supporting the development of processes necessary for preparing the 7th National Report. This includes establishing a coordination mechanism or utilizing existing mechanisms for updating the National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAP). The consultant will play a crucial role in ensuring that the report is comprehensive, accurate, and aligns with national and international biodiversity goals. The consultant is expected to engage with various stakeholders, facilitate discussions, and gather necessary data to inform the report. This role requires a deep understanding of biodiversity issues and the ability to navigate complex institutional frameworks.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop a detailed work plan for the preparation of the 7th National Report, ensuring alignment with UNDP guidelines and national priorities.
  • Establish or utilize existing coordination mechanisms to facilitate stakeholder engagement and data collection.
  • Conduct consultations with relevant stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and community representatives, to gather input and feedback on the report.
  • Analyze existing data and information related to biodiversity and compile it into a coherent narrative for the report.
  • Draft sections of the National Report, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and adherence to required formats.
  • Review and incorporate feedback from stakeholders and UNDP into the final report.
  • Prepare presentations and reports summarizing findings and recommendations for various audiences.
  • Ensure timely submission of deliverables as per the agreed timeline.

Required Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in project management, particularly in biodiversity or environmental projects.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to synthesize complex information into clear and actionable recommendations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with experience in stakeholder engagement.
  • Familiarity with UNDP processes and guidelines is an advantage.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating initiative and problem-solving skills.

Educational Background:
A minimum of a Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Biodiversity Conservation, Natural Resource Management, or a related field is required. Additional certifications or training in project management or related areas will be considered an asset.

Experience:
At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in project management, particularly in the field of biodiversity or environmental conservation. Experience working with governmental and non-governmental organizations is highly desirable. Familiarity with national and international biodiversity frameworks and reporting mechanisms is essential.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of local languages spoken in India would be an advantage, as it may facilitate better communication with local stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
The contract duration for this position is 11 months. This is a full-time consultancy role, and the consultant will be expected to work closely with UNDP and other stakeholders throughout the assignment. The position is open to both national and international candidates, and compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
