Job Overview: The position of Individual Consultant to undertake risk analysis at the community level involves conducting a comprehensive assessment of risks faced by communities in five specific woredas in Ethiopia. Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Individual Consultant include but are not limited to:
Conducting a thorough risk analysis at the community level in five designated woredas, utilizing both qualitative and quantitative research methods.
Engaging with community members, local authorities, and other stakeholders to gather insights and data relevant to the risk assessment.
Identifying key risks affecting the communities, including but not limited to natural disasters, health crises, economic vulnerabilities, and social conflicts.
Analyzing the data collected to evaluate the severity and likelihood of identified risks, and their potential impacts on community livelihoods and well-being.
Developing a comprehensive report detailing the findings of the risk analysis, including actionable recommendations for risk mitigation strategies.
Presenting the findings to UNDP and relevant stakeholders, facilitating discussions on the implementation of recommended strategies.
Collaborating with UNDP staff and local partners throughout the assignment to ensure alignment with broader development goals and initiatives.
Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for the position include:
A strong background in risk analysis, disaster management, or a related field, with demonstrated expertise in community-level assessments.
Proven experience working with local communities, particularly in developing countries, and an understanding of the socio-economic dynamics at play.
Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into clear and actionable recommendations.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Familiarity with UNDP's mission and objectives, as well as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), is highly desirable.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a minimum of a Master's degree in a relevant field such as social sciences, environmental studies, public policy, or a related discipline. Candidates with a PhD or equivalent advanced degree will be given preference. Additionally, specialized training or certifications in risk assessment, disaster management, or community development will be considered an asset.
Experience: Candidates are expected to have a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in risk analysis, community development, or related fields. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in the context of UNDP or similar agencies, will be highly regarded. Proven track record of conducting assessments and developing reports that inform policy and programmatic decisions is essential.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as all reports and communications will be conducted in this language. Proficiency in local languages spoken in the target woredas is highly desirable, as it will facilitate better engagement with community members and stakeholders. Knowledge of additional languages relevant to the region may also be beneficial.
Additional Notes: This position is classified as an individual contractor role, with a contract duration of 50 days spread over four months. The consultant will be expected to work flexibly, coordinating with UNDP and local partners to ensure timely completion of the risk analysis. The position is not full-time, allowing for a flexible schedule that accommodates the consultant's availability. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and in line with UNDP's remuneration policies. The consultant will be required to submit their proposals directly through the UNDP supplier portal, following the specified guidelines and deadlines.
