Job Overview: The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is situated within the Outreach Division of the Department of Global Communications, specifically in the NGO Relations, Advocacy, and Special Events Section. The role focuses on supporting the UN's Creative Community Outreach Initiative (CCOI) and the Messenger of Peace (MOP) Programme. The CCOI aims to foster partnerships with the global entertainment industry, while the MOP Programme coordinates advocacy efforts involving UN Messengers of Peace. Interns will engage in various activities, including project support, social media monitoring, event planning, and content creation for the UN's online platforms. This full-time, unpaid internship is designed to provide valuable experience in public information and outreach within a prestigious international organization.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will be responsible for a range of tasks, including:
Supporting projects with external partners from the entertainment and sports industries, which may involve drafting background materials and taking meeting notes.
Monitoring and reporting on social media activities related to the Messengers of Peace and other influencers, as well as collating metrics on advocacy engagement.
Assisting in the planning and organization of special events, filming projects, and other in-person activities at UN Headquarters.
Drafting, formatting, editing, and posting original content for the team's websites.
Assisting in the creation of communications materials, such as concept notes, talking points, presentations, and press releases.
Monitoring applications for the Football for the Goals membership and processing them daily.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Applicants should demonstrate proficiency in standard software applications, particularly MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams. The ability to draft emails, publications, or social media posts is also desirable.
Educational Background: Candidates must be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or enrolled in or have completed a Master’s or Ph.D. program. Proof of enrollment or completion must be provided with the application. The educational background should ideally be in fields related to communications, public relations, international relations, or similar areas relevant to the internship.
Experience: While no prior professional work experience is required for this internship, candidates should have relevant academic experience or coursework that aligns with the responsibilities of the position. This may include internships, volunteer work, or academic projects that demonstrate skills in communication, project management, or public outreach.
Languages: Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this internship, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of an additional official UN language, such as French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish, is considered an advantage and may enhance a candidate's application.
