Job Overview: The internship is situated in the Data Science and Decision-Support Division (DSDSD) of ESCWA, which plays a crucial role in the organization's modernization and innovation efforts. The DSDSD provides advanced analytics and decision-support services to ESCWA, other UN entities, and Member States. The division is aligned with the UN 2.0 agenda and focuses on leveraging data-driven insights and emerging technologies to inform policymaking and operations. Interns will gain hands-on experience in IT infrastructure, network monitoring, and cybersecurity systems, working closely with experienced IT professionals. This internship is designed to bridge theoretical knowledge with practical application, allowing interns to develop skills in monitoring and troubleshooting IT systems while contributing to ESCWA's IT services monitoring program.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will be involved in a variety of tasks including: assisting in the monitoring and investigation of ICT infrastructure systems such as SIEM and network monitoring; monitoring network access, system logs, and wireless connectivity; analyzing cybersecurity systems including log analysis tools and firewalls; conducting vulnerability assessments for applications and networks; reviewing and tracking vulnerabilities and supporting responses to cybersecurity events; performing digital forensic analysis and audits; developing scripts for log analysis; maintaining cybersecurity tools and applications; conducting compliance audits; creating runbooks and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security guidelines; and researching relevant cybersecurity topics. The intern will also collaborate with the Cloud & Infrastructure and Cyber Security teams to track vulnerabilities and problems identified in the systems.
Required Qualifications: To qualify for this internship, applicants must meet several conditions: they should be enrolled in a graduate school program or in the final year of a bachelor's degree program, or have graduated with a university degree. Additional Notes: The internship is for a minimum of two months on a full-time basis, with the possibility of extending up to six months. Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations, and they are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses. Interns must provide proof of valid medical insurance coverage for the duration of the internship and submit a medical certificate of good health. The United Nations does not charge any fees during the recruitment process, and interns must be aware of their visa requirements if they are not citizens or permanent residents of Lebanon. The position allows for flexible working arrangements, contingent upon agreement by the receiving entity.
