Job Overview: The Community Coordinator for the Regional Project Leave No One Behind will play a crucial role in reducing adolescent pregnancy in Afro-descendant communities within selected municipalities of Panama, specifically focusing on the provinces of Colón and Bocas del Toro. This position involves supporting the implementation of the project's annual operational plan, ensuring effective communication with various stakeholders, and guiding implementing partners in managing activities. The coordinator will also be responsible for collecting information related to project performance indicators, preparing reports, and facilitating meetings and workshops aimed at achieving project objectives. The role requires a proactive approach to establishing alliances with local authorities, civil society organizations, and other key stakeholders to foster collaboration and ensure the successful execution of project initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Community Coordinator will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including:
Supporting the implementation of the Regional Project Leave No One Behind in Panama, focusing on municipalities such as Colon, Portobelo, Santa Isabel, and Almirante.
Assisting in the administrative and programmatic implementation of the project's annual operational plan.
Maintaining close communication with the Representative/Head of Office and the Regional Project Coordination to ensure effective project execution.
Preparing Terms of Reference, technical specifications, and calls for proposals in coordination with the Representation.
Evaluating proposals and participating in selection panels, as well as following up on selection processes.
Providing technical support for the development of consultancies, contracts, and performance indicators.
Guiding implementing partners in managing activities and identifying support needs.
Collecting information related to management and performance indicators, and preparing territorial reports.
Planning and developing meetings, workshops, and events to contribute to project objectives. 1
Establishing alliances and articulating actions with local authorities, stakeholders, and academia. 1
Facilitating coordination with focal points in the municipalities. 1
Preparing progress reports and systematizing activities to evaluate project management and impacts. 1
Traveling within the territories as required. 1
Organizing activities, events, trainings, and workshops related to the project. 1
Leading coordination and management actions between UNFPA and local actors. 1
Contributing to project follow-up meetings and performing any other related activities as assigned.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a university degree in social sciences, such as psychology, sociology, social work, or community development. A master's degree in project management, public health, or social/environmental development is preferred. Strong computer skills are essential, including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and familiarity with database management. Candidates should also have knowledge of the socio-cultural context and Afro-descendant populations in the project’s targeted municipalities.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a university degree in relevant fields such as social sciences, community development, or political and management sciences. A master's degree in project management, public health, or social/environmental development is preferred, indicating a higher level of expertise and understanding of the complexities involved in managing community-based projects.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have relevant experience in community development, project management, or related fields. Experience working with Afro-descendant communities and understanding their socio-cultural dynamics is highly desirable. Candidates should demonstrate a proven track record of successfully implementing projects, managing stakeholders, and achieving measurable outcomes in similar contexts.
Languages: Fluency in Spanish is mandatory for this position, as it is essential for effective communication with local communities and stakeholders. Basic proficiency in English is also required, which will facilitate collaboration with international partners and access to global resources and knowledge.
