Job Overview: The Online Volunteer will play a crucial role in supporting the UNODC Access to Justice Team by conducting extensive research on access to justice-related topics. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about human rights and justice reform. The volunteer will be responsible for reviewing both academic and publicly available evidence, which will inform policy advice and program strategies aimed at ensuring equal access to justice for all individuals interacting with the criminal justice system. Duties and Responsibilities: The Online Volunteer will be tasked with several key responsibilities, including: conducting thorough open-source and academic research using credible online databases; reviewing and analyzing recent reports from UN special procedures and mandate holders that pertain to access to justice; systematizing and organizing research findings in a clear and structured format; summarizing key insights and recommendations based on the research conducted; coordinating with the Access to Justice Team remotely to ensure alignment with ongoing projects and initiatives; and contributing to discussions on best practices and innovative approaches to enhance access to justice.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should possess strong research skills, with the ability to critically analyze and synthesize information from various sources. Familiarity with criminal justice systems, human rights issues, and access to justice frameworks is essential. The ideal volunteer should demonstrate excellent written communication skills, with the ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner. Additionally, candidates should be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently in a remote setting.
Educational Background: A background in law, social sciences, international relations, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should ideally be pursuing or have completed a degree in a relevant discipline, with a focus on human rights, criminal justice, or public policy.
Experience: While prior experience in research or volunteer work related to justice systems or human rights is advantageous, it is not strictly required. The position is open to individuals who are eager to learn and contribute to the mission of UNODC, regardless of their level of experience.
