Job Overview:
The Individual Contractor position is situated within the Strategic Planning and Inter-Agency Affairs Unit (SPIA) of the Policy Analysis Branch at UNODC. The role is crucial for supporting the preparation of Secretariat-wide reports and documents, including the Secretary-General's reports and the Programme Plan and Budget Document for 202
  • The contractor will assist in ensuring that all programs align with UNODC’s Strategic Framework and will report on the progress of the implementation of the 2021-2025 UNODC Strategy. Additionally, the contractor will help prepare senior managers for their participation in various events and meetings, thereby playing a key role in the operational effectiveness of the unit.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Individual Contractor will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
  • Providing effective support in preparing Secretariat-wide reports and documents, including the SG reports and the Programme Plan and Budget Document for 202
  • Assisting with the ongoing work of the Unit to ensure alignment of all programs with UNODC’s Strategic Framework and reporting on the progress of the implementation of the 2021-2025 UNODC Strategy.
  • Supporting the Officer in Charge of the Unit in preparing senior managers for their participation in various events and meetings.
  • Engaging in the development of corporate strategies and annual programme plans, along with their monitoring and reporting.
  • Leading the development and oversight of the Office’s results-based management frameworks, standards, and procedures for programming purposes.
  • Coordinating with other United Nations agencies and international organizations for system-wide initiatives and reports.
  • Promoting issues related to countering drugs, crime, and terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.
  • Mainstreaming cross-cutting issues related to the Sustainable Development Goals, youth empowerment, and urban safety.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Additionally, at least two years of professional experience in programme/project management, communication, journalism, inter-agency affairs, or external relations is required. Previous experience within the United Nations System and/or coordination-related activities at the international level is also necessary. Candidates must possess excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, as well as graphic design and image editing tools such as Canva and GIMP. Familiarity with results-based management (RBM) and excellent coordination skills are desirable, along with an understanding of UNODC's work.

Educational Background:
A high school diploma or equivalent is the minimum educational requirement for this position. While higher education may not be explicitly required, relevant professional experience in the fields mentioned is crucial for candidates to be considered for the role.

Experience:
Candidates must have at least two years of professional experience in relevant fields such as programme/project management, communication, journalism, inter-agency affairs, or external relations. Experience within the United Nations System or in coordination-related activities at the international level is essential for this position, indicating a need for familiarity with UN operations and protocols.

Languages:
Fluency in oral and written English is required for this position, as English is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of another official United Nations language, such as French, is considered an advantage and may enhance a candidate's suitability for the role.
