Job Overview:
The Associate of Communication and Advocacy will play a crucial role in positioning UNFPA Panama's work at national, regional, and international levels. This position requires a strategic approach to media relations, advocacy, and the development of communication strategies that align with UNFPA's mission and objectives. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating and implementing a comprehensive communication and visibility strategy that enhances UNFPA's presence and influence in the public agenda. This includes managing media relations, building strategic alliances, and coordinating interagency representation. The role demands a proactive approach to digital communication and social media engagement, ensuring that UNFPA's messages resonate with diverse audiences and stakeholders. The Associate will also be expected to contribute to general activities aimed at achieving the organization's objectives, demonstrating a commitment to excellence and high-impact results.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Associate of Communication and Advocacy include:
  • Developing and implementing a communication and visibility strategy that aligns with UNFPA's goals and objectives.
  • Managing media relations to enhance UNFPA's visibility and influence in national, regional, and international contexts.
  • Building and maintaining strategic alliances with key stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and media outlets.
  • Advocating for UNFPA's priorities on the public agenda, ensuring that issues related to sexual and reproductive health, gender equality, and human rights are effectively communicated.
  • Coordinating interagency representation and collaboration to amplify UNFPA's impact.
  • Engaging in digital communication and social media management to reach broader audiences and promote UNFPA's initiatives.
  • Conducting research and analysis to inform communication strategies and advocacy efforts.
  • Writing and editing high-quality content for various communication channels, including press releases, reports, and social media posts.
  • Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of communication strategies and making recommendations for improvement.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the Associate of Communication and Advocacy position include:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Social Communication, Journalism, Proofreading and Style, or Advertising.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in communications management and advocacy, preferably within international organizations or development contexts.
  • Proven experience in strategic communications performance, particularly on development issues related to sexual and reproductive health and gender.
  • Strong consulting skills on media crisis management and the ability to engage effectively with national, regional, and international media outlets.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and coordinate communications and media projects, including branding campaigns.
  • Superior writing and editing skills, with a keen eye for detail.
  • An active personal network of contacts that can be leveraged to build alliances and mobilize resources.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Windows, as well as knowledge of social media management, video editing, and graphic design applications.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Social Communication, Journalism, Proofreading and Style, or Advertising. This educational background is essential for understanding the principles of effective communication and advocacy in the context of international development and human rights.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in communications management and advocacy. Candidates should have a proven track record of working in international organizations or development contexts, demonstrating their ability to navigate complex communication challenges and deliver impactful results.

Languages:
Fluency in Spanish is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within the organization and the region. Proficiency in English is also desirable, as it may be necessary for engaging with international stakeholders and accessing global resources.
