Job Overview: As an Electrical Engineer at CERN, you will be a vital part of the Electrical Engineering Group within the Engineering Department. Your primary responsibility will be to coordinate the Long Shutdown 3 (LS3) installation projects, which involve the installation of over 3,000 km of cables and electrical equipment valued at 100 million Swiss Francs. This role requires you to optimize resource leveling, streamline planning, and ensure the seamless execution of projects on a tight schedule. You will collaborate closely with engineers, technicians, and contractors to deliver CERN's world-class infrastructure efficiently and on time. Your contributions will include assisting in detailed planning, supporting project teams, ensuring data consistency, preparing reports, and monitoring contracts and procurement processes.
Duties and Responsibilities: Your duties as an Electrical Engineer will include: assisting in the detailed planning of LS3, ensuring the integration of installation schedules using EL Planner; supporting high-level LS3 planning in collaboration with EL Coordinators; structuring and inserting tasks within the planning tool for project and maintenance teams; ensuring data consistency and quality by proactively monitoring and proposing corrections; preparing reports and dashboards to track project progress, manpower allocation, and work status; contributing to manpower planning and monitoring, including tracking hiring needs and workforce availability; and monitoring contracts and procurement, including tracking invitations to tender and conducting risk assessments.
Required Qualifications: To qualify for this position, you must be a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State. By the application deadline, you should have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Electrical Engineering or a related field, and your highest educational qualification must be either a Bachelor's or Master's degree. Applicants without a university degree or those with a PhD are not eligible for this position. Additionally, you should possess experience in project scheduling and resource planning, preferably within electrical engineering projects, and proficiency in planning tools such as MS Project or equivalent.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of electrical engineering projects and for effectively contributing to the planning and execution of installation projects at CERN.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation. This experience should ideally be in project scheduling and resource planning, particularly in the context of electrical engineering projects. The role involves working in radiation areas and underground installations, which necessitates a valid driving license and specific authorizations for operations on electrical installations exceeding 1000 Volt AC or 1500 Volt DC. Candidates must also be aware of the occupational health risks associated with this position and must obtain medical clearance before a contract offer is confirmed. The compensation includes a monthly stipend ranging from 5196 to 5716 Swiss Francs (net of tax), coverage by CERN's comprehensive health scheme, and various allowances depending on individual circumstances. Additionally, employees are entitled to 30 days of paid leave per year and will have access to on-the-job and formal training, as well as in-house language courses.
