Job Overview:
As an Environment Specialist at ADB, you will play a crucial role in the Climate Change, Resilience, and Environment Cluster within the Climate Change and Sustainable Development Department. Your primary responsibility will be to contribute to the implementation of ADB's Environment Action Plan (EAP) and related initiatives aimed at promoting investments in nature. This position requires a strategic approach to environmental policy and investment, focusing on both nature-positive investments and mainstreaming environmental considerations across ADB's portfolio. You will serve as a focal point for the EAP, coordinating with various departments and stakeholders to ensure effective implementation and monitoring of environmental strategies. Additionally, you will support the Asia Clean Blue Skies Program, which aims to improve air quality through innovative projects and investments. Your role will involve developing knowledge products, organizing training sessions, and facilitating collaboration among teams to enhance ADB's environmental initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Strategic Implementation of the Environment Action Plan: Oversee the development and implementation of strategies and policies that promote investments in nature and environmentally sustainable practices across ADB's operations. Monitor and track the progress of EAP implementation and support activities related to nature-positive finance.
  • Air Quality Improvement: Lead efforts to scale up ADB's investments in air quality improvement, providing technical advice and coordinating with various departments to develop innovative loan and grant projects.
  • Knowledge Management: Facilitate knowledge sharing and capacity development within ADB and among developing member countries (DMCs), including the compilation of best practices and case studies on air quality improvement.
  • Policy Dialogue: Engage with DMC counterparts to support the preparation and implementation of Country Partnership Strategies (CPSs) and related assessments.
  • Training and Development: Organize training sessions and mentor teams within the Environment group to foster ongoing learning and development.

Required Qualifications:
To be considered for the Environment Specialist position, candidates must possess a university degree in Environmental Policy, Environmental Science, Environmental Economics, or a related field, preferably at the postgraduate level. A minimum of 6 years of relevant professional experience in the environmental policy or science sector is required, including international work experience. Candidates should demonstrate expertise in innovative and emerging areas of nature-related investments, possess excellent communication skills, and have the ability to distill complex information for diverse audiences. Familiarity with the mandates and operations of multilateral financial institutions is essential, along with strong client and stakeholder relationship management skills.

Educational Background:
Candidates must hold a university degree in Environmental Policy, Environmental Science, Environmental Economics, or a related field. A postgraduate degree or equivalent is preferred, indicating a higher level of expertise and knowledge in the relevant areas of environmental policy and management.

Experience:
The position requires at least 6 years of relevant professional experience in the environmental policy or science sector. This experience should include international work exposure, demonstrating the ability to navigate complex environmental challenges and contribute to policy development and implementation at a regional or global level. Candidates should have a proven track record in managing projects related to environmental sustainability and investments.

Languages:
Proficiency in written and verbal English is mandatory for this position, as effective communication is crucial for collaboration and knowledge sharing within ADB and with external stakeholders. Additional language skills may be considered an asset, particularly those relevant to ADB's member countries, enhancing the ability to engage with diverse communities and stakeholders.
