Job Overview:
The Energy Research Analyst position at WRI Indonesia is designed for individuals who are passionate about advancing clean energy and reducing carbon emissions. The analyst will conduct research and lead the development of specific activities in collaboration with the Energy & Sustainable Business Team. The role involves mainstreaming clean heat technologies, advancing corporate decarbonization, and supporting sound economic analysis and data-informed policy-making. The analyst will need to stay updated on climate and energy policies, technological developments, and emission abatement governance. Skills in quantitative analytics, critical thinking, stakeholder collaboration, and data acquisition are essential. The analyst will work closely with other analysts and senior analysts to strategize research targets, data acquisition, and analysis. This position requires a commitment to WRI's mission and values, and the analyst will report directly to the Senior Manager in the ESB Team, co-leading research pipelines and projects with significant research content.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Energy Research Analyst will actively contribute to conducting studies and analyses, applying techno-economic policy recommendations in areas such as corporate renewable energy, thermal energy, just transition, and renewable energy for industrial estates. Responsibilities include managing technical assistance to corporates and relevant ministries, producing research products, and contributing to the development of WRI ESB’s Flagship Knowledge Product. The analyst will provide mentorship to research assistants, maintain communication with key delivery partners, support knowledge management across energy projects, and liaise with other WRI International Offices and development partners. Additionally, the analyst will contribute to strategic discussions relevant to advancing WRI’s research excellence and portfolio expansion, as well as assist in proposal writing and reporting to donors.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in energy and environmental economics, natural resource management, engineering, finance, or a related field. A minimum of three years of relevant full-time work experience in energy-related roles, energy consulting firms, or think tanks is required. Background and expertise in topics such as the intersection of climate and energy with development economics, renewable energy integration, climate finance, and project development are considered assets. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to support research projects with limited guidance, communicate research findings effectively, and possess strong writing skills. Experience in quantitative analysis and stakeholder management is also essential, along with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Educational Background:
The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as energy and environmental economics, natural resource management, engineering, or finance. A Master’s degree in energy systems, energy economics, public policy, environmental management, or advanced engineering is preferred and would enhance a candidate's qualifications.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of three years of relevant full-time work experience in industries with energy-related job desks, energy consulting firms, or think tanks. Experience in stakeholder management and project management in the climate and energy field is highly valued. Additionally, experience working in the development sector and collaborating with government institutions is preferred.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Bahasa Indonesia is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset but is not required.

Additional Notes:
This is a full-time position with a fixed-term employment agreement lasting until 31 December 2025, with an initial consultancy contract of three months before the fixed-term employment begins. The salary will be commensurate with experience and skills, and a competitive benefits package will be offered. Candidates must have authorization to work in Indonesia to be eligible for this position. Final candidates may be required to take a writing test and provide two writing samples if needed.
