Job Overview:
The Thai Language Teacher position is designed to enhance communication and cultural integration among international colleagues through a specialized Thai conversation course. The teacher will be responsible for delivering engaging and practical language instruction that focuses on essential speaking and listening skills necessary for everyday interactions. The course aims to improve participants' confidence and competence in using Thai for basic conversations, including self-introduction, small talk, polite requests, and understanding basic numbers and time expressions. The instruction will be conducted in a virtual classroom format on a part-time basis, and the selected teacher will be expected to align their teaching with the organization's training standards while fostering an interactive and supportive learning environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The main duties and responsibilities of the Thai Language Teacher include:
  • Designing and delivering a comprehensive curriculum that encompasses modules on self-introduction, small talk, polite requests, restaurant vocabulary, Thai numbers, and time expressions.
  • Leading scheduled in-class sessions and supervising activities using diverse instructional methods to enhance students' learning experiences, while adjusting teaching strategies based on student feedback and understanding.
  • Conducting distance learning sessions via a defined online meeting platform, ensuring effective communication and engagement.
  • Assigning and reinforcing learning through homework and activities to be completed outside of class.
  • Actively facilitating class discussions, encouraging participation, and addressing specific questions raised by students to foster a collaborative learning environment.
  • Providing constructive end-of-term feedback on course delivery and student progress to the Learning and Development Unit, Human Resources Management section, ESCAP.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a first-level university degree in language teaching, Thai language, linguistics, education, or a related field. In cases where candidates possess equivalent teaching experience, this may be accepted in lieu of a formal degree. Additionally, candidates should have at least three years of experience teaching Thai to non-native adult learners, preferably in multicultural settings. Experience in designing practical language courses and familiarity with online teaching tools is highly desirable.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a first-level university degree in a relevant field such as language teaching, Thai language, linguistics, or education. This educational background is essential to ensure that the teacher has the necessary theoretical knowledge and pedagogical skills to effectively teach the Thai language to non-native speakers.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of three years of teaching experience, specifically in teaching Thai to non-native adult learners. This experience should preferably be in multicultural environments, which will enhance the teacher's ability to address the diverse needs of students from various cultural backgrounds. Familiarity with online teaching tools and experience in designing practical language courses will be considered advantageous.

Languages:
The position requires the candidate to be a native speaker of Thai or a certified Thai language teacher. Fluency in English is also mandatory, as it will facilitate communication with non-native speakers and enhance the learning experience for students who may not be proficient in Thai.
