Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is located within the Division of Production, Productivity and Management at ECLAC. The internship is expected to last between 2 to 6 months, depending on the needs of the office. Interns will work under the supervision of an economic affairs officer and will engage in various tasks related to science, technology, and innovation policy in Latin America and the Caribbean. The role involves collaborating on studies, conducting research and analysis on productive development policies, and assisting with administrative tasks related to the Conference on Science, Innovation, and ITC of ECLAC. This internship provides an opportunity for students to gain practical experience in a UN environment while contributing to important regional development initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be responsible for collaborating in studies on science, technology, and innovation policy in Latin America and the Caribbean. They will conduct research and analysis on broader productive development policies as needed. Additionally, interns will assist with various administrative tasks associated with the Conference on Science, Innovation, and ITC of ECLAC. This may include data collection, report preparation, and supporting the organization of events and meetings. Interns are expected to work closely with ECLAC staff and contribute to the overall objectives of the division.

Required Qualifications:
  • Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience, but a field of study closely related to the internship is required.
  • Candidates must be students in their final year of a bachelor's degree, or enrolled in a master's or Ph.D. program, or have completed such programs. Proof of eligibility must be provided with the application.
  • Basic knowledge or interest in the economics of science, technology, and innovation is essential, along with any relevant policy experience.
  • The ability to manipulate and analyze data is desirable, indicating a strong analytical skill set.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be in their final year of a first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or enrolled in a master's or Ph.D. program, or have completed such programs. This educational background should be closely related to the internship's focus on science, technology, and innovation policy.

Experience:
While professional work experience is not a requirement for this internship, candidates should have relevant academic experience or coursework that aligns with the internship's focus. This could include research projects, coursework in economics, public policy, or related fields that demonstrate an understanding of the subject matter.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) is considered an advantage, as English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
