Job Overview: The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position in the Social Development Division of ECLAC is designed to provide support in the area of social protection policies. The intern will work under the supervision of a Social Affairs Research Assistant and will be involved in various tasks that contribute to the division's objectives. The internship is expected to last between 2 to 6 months, depending on the needs of the office and the intern's availability. Candidates may be selected throughout the posting period on an 'as-needed' basis. The intern will engage in research, data analysis, and the organization of events, contributing to the development of social policies and programs.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: scheduling events and activities, conducting research on qualitative and quantitative data related to social protection policies, drafting documents and inputs related to social policy and government institutions, gathering and summarizing research information on specific topics, particularly in social protection and social development, supporting the organization of seminars and expert meetings, producing briefs and presentations as requested, collaborating with team members, processing statistical information, and updating the content of databases and websites of the Social Development Division.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required for the UN Internship Programme, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Previous knowledge of social protection policies is also required for this internship.
Educational Background: Candidates must be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or enrolled in a Master's or Ph.D. program, or have completed such programs. Proof of enrollment or completion must be provided with the application, and an official certificate will be required at a later stage.
Experience: While no professional work experience is required for this internship, candidates should have relevant academic experience or coursework related to social protection policies. Previous internships or volunteer work in similar fields may be beneficial but are not mandatory.
Languages: Fluency in spoken and written English and Spanish is required for this internship, as these are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
