Job Overview:

The assignment is expected to last for four months, during which the consultant will engage with various stakeholders, including governmental bodies, NGOs, and local communities, to gather relevant information and assess the effectiveness of current strategies in place for ecosystem restoration.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will undertake a comprehensive assessment of the progress made towards ecosystem restoration targets. This includes collecting and analyzing data on biodiversity indicators, evaluating the effectiveness of restoration projects, and identifying gaps in current strategies. The consultant will also be responsible for preparing detailed reports that outline findings, recommendations, and potential areas for improvement. Engaging with stakeholders to gather qualitative data and insights will be a key responsibility, as will presenting findings to relevant parties. The consultant may also be required to facilitate workshops or discussions to disseminate information and gather feedback on restoration efforts.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong background in environmental science, ecology, or a related field. A proven track record in biodiversity assessment and ecosystem restoration is essential. Familiarity with national and international biodiversity frameworks and targets is highly desirable. The consultant should demonstrate excellent analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and present findings clearly. Strong communication skills are necessary for engaging with stakeholders and presenting reports. Experience working with UN agencies or similar organizations will be an advantage.

Educational Background:
A minimum of a Master's degree in environmental science, ecology, biology, or a related field is required. Additional certifications or training in biodiversity assessment or ecosystem management will be considered an asset. Candidates with a PhD in a relevant discipline may have an advantage in the selection process.

Experience:
The position requires at least 5 years of professional experience in environmental consultancy, biodiversity assessment, or ecosystem restoration projects. Experience working in Egypt or similar ecological contexts is preferred. The consultant should have a demonstrated ability to manage projects effectively and work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders.

Languages:
Fluency in Arabic and English is mandatory, as the consultant will need to communicate effectively with local stakeholders and produce reports in both languages. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly if it relates to the local context or stakeholders involved in the project.

Additional Notes:
This consultancy is structured as a deliverable-based contract, with a total duration of four months, amounting to forty working days. The consultant will work independently but will be expected to report regularly to the UNDP office in Egypt. The position is part-time, and the consultant will be compensated based on the deliverables outlined in the contract.
