Job Overview:
The Security Specialist (Fire Life Safety CO Support) position is critical within the Corporate Security Engineering Team at the World Bank. This role is based in Washington, D.C., and involves providing expert advice and consultation services related to fire life safety across the World Bank Group's global offices. The incumbent will work closely with field Security Specialists and Senior Security Specialists to ensure the effective implementation of fire safety measures and compliance with applicable regulations. The position requires strategic oversight of the Fire Life Safety program, including project management and system maintenance, while also engaging with various internal and external stakeholders to promote safety awareness and emergency preparedness. The role demands a proactive approach to risk mitigation and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences, ensuring that fire safety standards are upheld globally.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Security Specialist CO Support will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: coordinating the review of fire life safety plans for non-headquarters offices, managing fire prevention and risk mitigation programs, ensuring the functionality of fire notification systems, promoting fire life safety awareness through training and resources, and maintaining the Fire Life Safety web page. The role also involves establishing monitoring processes for fire life safety emergencies, conducting investigations into incidents, and sharing lessons learned to enhance global fire safety awareness. Additionally, the incumbent will develop and maintain fire life safety standards, provide project support by identifying fire safety risks, and ensure compliance with local and international fire safety regulations. The position requires travel to supervise the Global Fire Life Safety Program and collaborate with various stakeholders to enhance fire safety measures.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a master’s degree in fire science, fire protection management, or a related field, along with at least 5 years of relevant experience. Alternatively, a bachelor’s degree combined with 7 years of qualifying experience may be accepted. A career-level diploma from a recognized fire protection institution may substitute for a bachelor’s degree in exceptional cases. Candidates should have a working knowledge of local fire codes and National Fire Protection Association Life Safety Codes, as well as confirmed experience in managing fire evacuation across multiple building types. Project Management Professional Certification (PMP®) is preferred but not mandatory. Experience with international or diplomatic organizations is also advantageous, along with a strong understanding of operational planning and the ability to communicate effectively about fire safety risks.

Educational Background:
The educational requirements for this position include a master’s degree in fire science, fire protection management, or a relevant field. In lieu of a master’s degree, a bachelor’s degree combined with 7 years of relevant experience is acceptable. Additionally, a career-level diploma from a recognized fire protection institution or college program may substitute for a bachelor’s degree in exceptional circumstances. Continuous professional development in fire safety and related fields is encouraged to maintain expertise in this area.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in fire science or fire protection management. Candidates with a bachelor’s degree may qualify with 7 years of experience. Experience in managing fire safety in international or diplomatic contexts is preferred, as is familiarity with project management principles and practices. The role demands a demonstrated ability to effectively plan, direct, and coordinate diverse activities to ensure the successful delivery of fire safety programs.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory, with proven skills in speaking, reading, and writing. While English is the primary language required for this position, knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly in enhancing communication with diverse stakeholders across global offices.
