Job Posting Organization: The International Labour Organization (ILO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations that aims to promote social justice and fair labor standards globally. Established in 1919, the ILO has a mission to ensure that labor standards are upheld and that all individuals have the right to decent work. The organization operates in over 180 countries and has a diverse workforce of approximately 3,300 employees. The ILO is committed to promoting equality and eliminating discrimination in the workplace, working closely with governments, employers, and workers' organizations to achieve its goals.
Job Overview: The internship program at the ILO provides an opportunity for individuals to gain practical experience in international labor issues while contributing to the organization's mission. Interns will engage directly in the work of the ILO, applying its principles, programs, and strategies in real-world contexts. This internship is particularly focused on supporting diversity and inclusion initiatives within the ILO's Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean, with a special emphasis on promoting opportunities for individuals with disabilities. Interns will work under the supervision of the regional human resourcescoordinator and will be involved in various activities aimed at enhancing workplace diversity and inclusion across the region.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in the design, implementation, and updating of the diversity and inclusion plan for the Latin America and Caribbean region.
Support the consolidation of a network of organizations to disseminate selection processes in the region, particularly in Peru, Brazil, Mexico, and Colombia.
Help develop workshops and other activities stemming from the deployment of the diversity and inclusion plan.
Collaborate with the team responsible for integrating individuals with disabilities and other relevant internal and external stakeholders to create synergies for achieving the plan's objectives.
Perform other related tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must meet specific criteria to be eligible for the internship. This includes not having any close relatives working at the ILO, not having previously interned at the ILO, and being enrolled in or having completed a Master's or Doctoral program within the year prior to application. Additionally, candidates must possess practical knowledge of English, both oral and written, which is mandatory for this position. Experience in organizations promoting the rights of individuals with disabilities or minority groups is desirable but not mandatory.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in administration, law, economics, sociology, anthropology, psychology, or a related field is required. Being in the final year of a graduate program (master's or equivalent) related to the ILO's work or having completed such programs within the year prior to application is an advantage, although not mandatory.
Experience: The internship is particularly suited for candidates with experience in organizations that advocate for the development and rights of individuals with disabilities and minority groups. This experience is not strictly required but is considered beneficial for the role.
Languages: Advanced knowledge of Spanish (oral and written) is required, along with a good command of English. Proficiency in both languages is essential for effective communication within the ILO and with external partners.
Additional Notes: This internship is specifically reserved for candidates with disabilities. The contract duration is six months, starting on either the 1st or the 15th of the month. Interns will receive a monthly allowance based on the cost of living in Lima, unless they receive funding from another institution. Travel expenses to the internship location will be the responsibility of the intern. The ILO does not cover any medical or accident insurance costs during the internship, and candidates are advised to ensure they have adequate coverage. The ILO does not charge any fees during the recruitment process, and candidates should be cautious of fraudulent communications.
