Job Description
Job Posting Organization:
The International Labour Organization (ILO) was established in 1919 and is a specialized agency of the United Nations that aims to promote social justice and fair labor practices worldwide. The ILO has a mission to ensure that labor standards are upheld and that all individuals have the right to decent work. The organization operates in over 180 countries and has a diverse workforce of approximately 3,300 employees. The ILO is committed to addressing global challenges such as poverty, inequality, and social injustice through its various programs and initiatives.

Job Overview:
The internship program at the ILO offers a unique opportunity for students and recent graduates to gain practical experience in international labor issues while contributing to the organization's mission. Interns will be involved in the work of the ILO's AP/CRISIS unit, which focuses on promoting decent work in countries affected by conflict and disasters. Interns will assist in various projects, including the implementation of the ILO's Recommendation No. 205 on employment and decent work for peace and resilience. This position is designed for individuals who are eager to learn and contribute to the ILO's efforts in addressing labor issues in crisis situations. Interns will work under the supervision of senior technical advisors and will have the chance to engage in meaningful projects that align with their academic background and career aspirations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be responsible for supporting the AP/CRISIS unit in several key areas. This includes assisting in the preparation of workshops and international events focused on decent work in humanitarian and crisis situations. Interns will help organize significant events such as the International Labour Conference and the Global Summit for Social Development. They will also contribute to awareness campaigns and advocacy initiatives at global, regional, and national levels, preparing promotional materials and communication content. Additionally, interns will document and disseminate lessons learned and best practices related to ILO initiatives in fragile and conflict-affected areas. They will maintain electronic archives of relevant information and assist in the development of training materials and guidelines for capacity building among tripartite constituents.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must meet specific eligibility criteria to apply for the internship. They should not have any close relatives working at the ILO and must not have previously completed an internship at the organization. Applicants must be enrolled in a Master's or Doctoral program or have completed such a program within the year prior to applying. A practical knowledge of English, both oral and written, is mandatory. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate adaptability to an international, multicultural, and multilingual environment, possess strong communication skills, and be able to work effectively in a team setting.

Educational Background:
The ideal candidate should be pursuing or have completed a Master's or Doctoral program in relevant fields such as disaster studies, climate and environmental studies, international relations, development studies, gender studies, human rights, or social and political sciences. This educational background will provide the necessary foundation for understanding the complexities of labor issues in crisis contexts and contribute to the ILO's mission.

Experience:
While prior experience is not mandatory, having some field experience in developing countries, particularly in fragile or post-conflict settings, is considered an asset. This experience will enhance the intern's ability to contribute effectively to the ILO's work and understand the challenges faced in these environments.

Languages:
A strong command of English is required, both spoken and written. Proficiency in French and/or Spanish is considered an advantage, as it will facilitate communication and collaboration within the diverse international context of the ILO.

Additional Notes:
The internship contract will last between 3 to 6 months, starting either on the 1st or the 15th of the month. Interns will receive a monthly allowance of 2450 CHF, unless they are receiving funding from another institution. If partial funding is received, the ILO will cover the difference to ensure the intern receives the full allowance. Additionally, interns will receive a monthly contribution towards medical insurance costs. Candidates from underrepresented or unrepresented member states may be eligible for financial assistance for travel expenses to Geneva. It is important to note that the ILO does not cover any costs related to accidents or illnesses during the internship, and candidates must ensure they have appropriate health and accident insurance coverage.
