Job Overview: The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is part of the ILO's generic internship roster, which is published biannually. Interns will have the opportunity to engage directly with the ILO's work, gaining insights into international labor issues and the application of ILO principles and strategies. The internship aims to provide practical experience related to the intern's field of study while contributing to the ILO's mission of promoting decent work in crisis situations. Interns will work under the supervision of the Nexus Chief Technical Adviser, supporting the AP/CRISIS unit in its efforts to enhance the ILO's role in the Humanitarian, Development, and Peace Nexus (HDPN).
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will be involved in various tasks, including assisting in the organization of workshops and international events related to Decent Work in crisis situations. They will help prepare logistics, briefings, and communication materials for significant events such as the International Labour Conference and Geneva Peace Week. Additionally, interns will contribute to awareness-raising initiatives and advocacy campaigns, preparing promotional materials and communication content for social media. They will also document lessons learned from ILO initiatives in fragile and conflict-affected areas, maintain electronic archives, and assist in developing training materials for capacity building of tripartite constituents. Interns should expect to allocate 10% to 20% of their time to administrative tasks.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must be currently enrolled in or have recently completed a Master's or Doctorate program in relevant fields such as disaster studies, international relations, development studies, or social sciences. A strong understanding of the ILO's principles and the ability to work in a multicultural environment are essential. Applicants should possess good communication skills, be adaptable, and demonstrate teamwork capabilities. Proficiency in AI tools and graphic design software is also beneficial.
Educational Background: The educational requirement for this internship includes enrollment in a graduate program (Master's or higher) or completion of such a program within the past year. Relevant disciplines include disaster and environmental studies, international relations, development studies, gender and human rights studies, and social and political sciences. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of the ILO's work in crisis situations.
Experience: While prior experience is not mandatory, candidates with first-hand field experience in developing countries, particularly in fragile or post-conflict settings, will be considered favorably. This experience can enhance the intern's understanding of the challenges faced in these environments and the ILO's response strategies.
Languages: A strong command of English, both oral and written, is mandatory for this position. Additionally, proficiency in French and/or Spanish is considered an asset, as it can facilitate communication in the diverse international environment of the ILO.
Additional Notes: The internship contract will last between 3 to 6 months, starting on either the 1st or the 15th of a given month. Interns will receive a monthly stipend of 2450 CHF, with additional contributions towards medical insurance. Candidates from non- or under-represented member states may be eligible for travel cost coverage. It is important to note that the ILO does not guarantee employment at the end of the internship, and candidates must not have close relatives working at the ILO or have previously interned with the organization.
