Established in 1919, the ILO has a mission to ensure that labor standards are upheld globally, providing a platform for dialogue between governments, employers, and workers. The organization operates in over 180 countries and has a diverse workforce of approximately 3,300 employees. The ILO is committed to promoting decent work for all, advocating for rights at work, encouraging decent employment opportunities, enhancing social protection, and strengthening dialogue on work-related issues.

Job Overview:
The internship program at the ILO offers a unique opportunity for individuals to gain practical experience in international labor issues while directly contributing to the work of the organization. Interns will engage in various tasks that enhance their understanding of global labor standards and the implementation of ILO principles and strategies. The internship is designed for individuals who are currently enrolled in or have recently completed a master's or doctoral program, providing them with a chance to apply their academic knowledge in a real-world setting. Interns will work closely with experienced professionals in the field, gaining insights into the operations of the ILO and the complexities of labor rights and standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will assist in preparing documents for supervisory bodies, which includes analyzing complaints and conducting preliminary reviews of national laws and practices. They will also conduct research related to the ILO's mandate, focusing on comparative law aspects. The role involves substantive work, with a small percentage of time allocated to other tasks. Interns will collaborate with international lawyers who have extensive experience within the ILO, providing them with mentorship and guidance throughout their internship. This position requires strong analytical skills and the ability to communicate effectively in a multicultural environment.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have a background in law or a related field and should be enrolled in a master's program or have completed such a program within the last year. They should possess excellent research and legal writing skills, as well as the ability to analyze complex legal issues. Strong communication skills, both oral and written, are essential, along with the ability to work collaboratively in a team setting. Interns should demonstrate a commitment to non-discrimination and gender-sensitive approaches in their work.

Educational Background:
A law degree or a degree in a related field is required for this internship. Candidates must be currently enrolled in a master's or doctoral program, or have completed such a program within the past year. This educational background is crucial for understanding the legal frameworks and principles that govern labor rights and standards.

Experience:
Candidates should have prior experience in legal research and analysis, as well as legal writing. This experience can be gained through academic projects, previous internships, or relevant work experience in legal settings. The ability to apply theoretical knowledge to practical situations is highly valued in this role.

Languages:
A practical knowledge of English is mandatory, both oral and written. Proficiency in one of the ILO's official languages (French or Spanish) is also required. Knowledge of additional working languages is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage in a multilingual environment.

Additional Notes:
The internship contract will last between 3 to 6 months, starting on either the 1st or the 15th of the month. Interns will receive a monthly stipend of 2450 CHF, unless they are receiving funding from another institution. If partial funding is received, the ILO will cover the difference to ensure the intern receives the full stipend. Additionally, interns will receive a monthly contribution of 45 CHF towards medical insurance expenses during their internship. Candidates from underrepresented countries may be eligible for financial assistance for travel expenses to Geneva. It is important to note that the ILO does not cover any personal expenses incurred during the internship, and candidates must secure their own health and accident insurance for the duration of their internship.
