Job Overview:
The position of International Consultant is focused on supporting the organization of a workshop aimed at advancing the meaningful participation of military women in protecting civilians during UN peacekeeping operations. This role involves collaborating with various stakeholders to ensure the successful planning and execution of the workshop, which is scheduled to take place between April 2025 and July 202
  • The consultant will be expected to bring expertise in gender issues, military operations, and peacekeeping, and will play a crucial role in facilitating discussions and activities that promote the inclusion of military women in peacekeeping efforts. The consultant will also be responsible for developing workshop materials, coordinating logistics, and ensuring that the objectives of the workshop align with UNDP's mission and goals.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the International Consultant include:
  • Conducting a needs assessment to identify key topics and issues related to the participation of military women in peacekeeping operations.
  • Developing a comprehensive workshop agenda that addresses the identified needs and promotes meaningful discussions.
  • Coordinating with UNDP and other stakeholders to finalize the logistics of the workshop, including venue selection, participant invitations, and resource allocation.
  • Preparing and distributing workshop materials, including presentations, handouts, and other relevant documentation.
  • Facilitating discussions and activities during the workshop to encourage active participation and engagement from attendees.
  • Collecting feedback from participants to evaluate the effectiveness of the workshop and identify areas for improvement.
  • Preparing a final report summarizing the outcomes of the workshop and providing recommendations for future initiatives.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the International Consultant position include:
  • A strong background in gender studies, international relations, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in organizing workshops or training sessions, particularly in the context of military or peacekeeping operations.
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
  • Familiarity with UN peacekeeping operations and the role of women in these contexts.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess needs and develop effective strategies.

Educational Background:
Candidates for the International Consultant position should possess at least a Master's degree in gender studies, international relations, social sciences, or a related field. A PhD or equivalent experience in a relevant area would be an advantage. Additionally, candidates should have a strong understanding of the UN system and its policies related to gender equality and peacekeeping.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in gender issues, military operations, or peacekeeping. Experience working with international organizations, particularly the UN, is highly desirable. Candidates should demonstrate a track record of successfully organizing and facilitating workshops or training sessions, as well as experience in conducting research and analysis related to gender and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as all communications and documentation will be conducted in English. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly those spoken in the region, would be considered an asset but is not required.

  • The consultant will be expected to work on a full-time basis during this period, with specific hours to be agreed upon with UNDP. Compensation will be based on the consultant's experience and qualifications, and benefits may include travel allowances and other relevant expenses related to the workshop organization.
