Job Overview:
The Senior Industry Specialist position focuses on Agri-Finance, requiring significant market and industry experience in Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA), Agricultural Finance (AgF), and AgTech. The role is pivotal in developing IFC's Agri-Finance related business and investments, supporting clients in financing sustainable, resilient, and productive agricultural practices. The specialist will also assist smaller players along the agribusiness value chain. This position will serve as the primary FIG interface to support both FIG and the Manufacturing, Agribusiness, and Services (MAS) group in identifying new investment opportunities that facilitate lending to farmers through both traditional and non-traditional financial sector entities. The role is based in Washington, DC, and is integral to the strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing agricultural finance.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior Industry Specialist will be responsible for leading the formulation and implementation of a strategy aimed at doubling Agri-finance provided to Financial Intermediaries (FIs) by 203
  • This will involve a focus on Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA), Agricultural Finance (AgF), and AgTech, with an emphasis on developing new tools and channels to scale up investments. The candidate is expected to possess a deep existing network in Agri-Finance to originate new business and assess how IFC's existing network of banks and Non-Banking Financial Institutions (NBFIs) can be leveraged for new business origination. Additionally, the specialist will develop and disseminate a comprehensive business plan for IFC to deepen its role in the Agri-finance space and support FIs in promoting increased lending in agriculture. The role includes identifying new opportunities for lending to farmers through FIs and offtakers, coordinating across various units, preparing and executing fundraising strategies, and establishing IFC's sector leadership through innovation. The specialist will also work with other industry departments to identify AgTech and FinTech players with innovative solutions and develop partnerships to amplify IFC's value addition.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree or equivalent professional qualification in finance or business, along with a minimum of 8-10 years of relevant work experience. A proven track record in investments related to agribusiness, market development, rural finance, and climate-smart agriculture finance in emerging markets is essential. The candidate should have experience sourcing Agri-finance transactions, developing client relationships, and processing quality investments. A good network of financial intermediaries and digital players, along with a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities within agrifood systems and climate-smart agri solutions, is required. The ability to think strategically, develop innovative solutions, and make sound decisions is crucial, as is excellent business judgment and strong analytical skills.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Master's degree or equivalent professional qualification in finance or business. This advanced education is essential to ensure that the candidate possesses the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to navigate the complexities of agricultural finance and investment in emerging markets.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 8-10 years of relevant work experience. Candidates should have a proven track record in investments related to agribusiness and market development, as well as experience in rural finance and climate-smart agriculture finance. This level of experience is critical to ensure that the candidate can effectively contribute to the strategic goals of the organization and lead initiatives that drive business growth in the Agri-Finance sector.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory for this position, as strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.
