Job Overview:
The UN Volunteer position focuses on supporting the Nature, Climate, Energy and Resilience (NCER) portfolio, which is dedicated to promoting climate-resilient development. The role involves assisting in the integration of climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction into government policies and frameworks. The volunteer will help enhance community capacities to manage climate change and natural disasters, promote citizen engagement in climate mitigation, and support the management of natural resources. The position requires a proactive approach to logistical arrangements, financial management, and compliance with project requirements, ensuring that the NCER programme achieves its objectives effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The UN Volunteer will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including: 1) Administration and implementation of programme strategies, which involves supporting travel arrangements, preparing reports, and managing logistical arrangements for training and workshops. 2) Providing financial support by controlling payment documents, creating project budgets in Quantum, and coordinating with project partners on financial matters. 3) Ensuring compliance and transparency in financial processes, providing periodic projections of project delivery, and maintaining communication with stakeholders. 4) Offering operational support, including maintaining internal expenditure control systems and assisting in meetings. 5) Facilitating knowledge sharing and training for project staff, contributing to knowledge networks, and synthesizing lessons learned. 6) Performing additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates should possess strong organizational and administrative skills, with a keen attention to detail. Proficiency in financial management and reporting is essential, along with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams. The role requires adaptability, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to achieving results. Familiarity with UNDP's mission and values, particularly in relation to climate change and sustainable development, is highly desirable.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as environmental science, public administration, finance, or a related discipline is required. Advanced degrees or certifications in project management or climate change adaptation would be advantageous.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 1-2 years of relevant experience in administrative support, financial management, or project coordination. Experience working in an international organization or in the field of climate change and disaster risk reduction is preferred. Familiarity with UNDP processes and systems, particularly Quantum, is a plus.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of local languages or other UN languages would be considered an asset, enhancing communication with local stakeholders and communities.

Additional Notes:
This is a national UN Volunteer assignment based in Kampala, Uganda. The volunteer will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. The position may require flexibility in working hours and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances. The living conditions in Kampala are generally good, with access to medical facilities, banking services, and a variety of food options.
