Job Overview:
The Driver position at UN Women is crucial for providing reliable and safe driving services to the Country Office and other UN officials and visitors. The role requires a high level of discretion, integrity, and responsibility, as well as an excellent understanding of protocol and security issues. The Driver will report to the Operations Manager and may also be required to provide driving services to operations and program staff, consultants, and experts. In addition to driving, the Driver will be responsible for basic administrative and clerical support to the UN Women Country Office. This position is essential in ensuring the smooth operation of the office and supporting the mission of UN Women in addressing the challenges faced by women and girls in Ukraine, particularly in the context of the ongoing humanitarian crisis.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Driver will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
  • Providing reliable and secure driving services by transporting authorized personnel and delivering and collecting mail, documents, and other items to various locations, including government offices and UN offices.
  • Meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport and assisting with visa and customs formalities when required.
  • Ensuring the safety of all passengers by verifying that seatbelts are worn at all times and taking immediate actions required by rules and regulations in case of accidents.
  • Adhering to job-specific guidelines and policies of UN Women, including vehicle management policies.
  • Ensuring that the vehicle complies with security and safety standards established at the duty station.
  • Maintaining daily vehicle logs, including mileage, gas consumption, and servicing records.
  • Performing day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle, ensuring it is clean, in good working condition, and making minor repairs as needed.
  • Maintaining and ensuring the availability of all required documents and supplies in the vehicle, including insurance, vehicle logs, and a first aid kit.
  • Providing general administrative and logistic support as needed, such as assisting office staff with filing, photocopying, and distribution of publications. 1
  • Performing other duties as necessary for the efficient functioning of the office and organization.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires the following qualifications:
  • Completion of secondary education is required.
  • A valid driver’s license is mandatory.
  • At least 2 years of experience as a driver in an international organization, embassy, or UN system with a safe driving record.
  • Excellent driving skills and a good knowledge of driving rules and regulations, local roads, and conditions.
  • Good defensive driving skills and the ability to perform minor vehicle repairs.
  • A client-oriented approach, courtesy, confidentiality, and the ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds are essential.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have completed secondary education. A valid driver’s license is also required to fulfill the responsibilities of the position effectively.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 2 years of experience as a driver, preferably within an international organization, embassy, or UN system. A proven safe driving record is essential to ensure the safety of passengers and compliance with organizational standards.

Languages:
Working knowledge of English is required for this position, along with fluency in Ukrainian. Knowledge of another official UN language, such as French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish, is considered desirable and may enhance the candidate's profile.
