Job Overview:
The Driver position at WFP is crucial for ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of authorized personnel and commodities. The driver will be responsible for meeting official personnel and visitors at various entry points, assisting with visa and customs formalities, and maintaining accurate vehicle log books. The driver must demonstrate a high level of responsibility and professionalism, as they will be representing WFP in various capacities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Driver's primary duties include transporting authorized personnel and commodities, ensuring compliance with safety and security regulations, and maintaining the assigned vehicle in good condition. Specific responsibilities include:
  • Providing safe transportation for personnel, including translation of basic conversations from/to the local language.
  • Meeting personnel and visitors at the airport or other entry points, assisting with visa and customs formalities.
  • Maintaining accurate vehicle log books and reporting mechanical status to the supervisor.
  • Keeping the assigned vehicle clean and well-maintained, ensuring it is equipped with necessary travel authorizations and supplies.
  • Following established rules for field deliveries and reporting any issues to the supervisor.
  • Performing basic office tasks such as filing, photocopying, and maintaining stores when required.
  • Assisting with the delivery and collection of various items and mailing services.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a valid driver's license and certification to operate the assigned vehicle, along with completion of Secondary School Education. Additionally, candidates should have a demonstrated safe driving record and knowledge of driving rules and regulations. The ability to follow instructions and work independently with minimal supervision is essential. Candidates should also have a client-oriented approach, high sense of responsibility, courtesy, and tact.

Educational Background:
The minimum educational requirement for this position is the completion of Secondary School Education. Formal driver training is required, along with a valid driver's license that complies with local regulations. This educational background ensures that candidates have the necessary knowledge and skills to operate vehicles safely and effectively.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least two years of relevant work experience as a driver, preferably within an international organization, embassy, or UN system. A demonstrated safe driving record is essential, along with experience in driving various types of vehicles, including vans and trucks. Experience in defensive driving is considered desirable, as it enhances the driver's ability to navigate challenging driving conditions safely.

Languages:
Proficiency in both oral and written communication in English and Somali is mandatory for this position. This language requirement ensures effective communication with personnel and clients, facilitating smooth operations and interactions.
