Job Overview:
The Driver position at WFP is crucial for ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of senior WFP staff, high-ranking UN officials, and visitors. Duties and Responsibilities:
The Driver will be responsible for the following key accountabilities:

  • Plan and assign routes and schedules for other drivers to optimize transport services.
  • Meet official personnel and visitors at airports or other entry points, assisting with visa and customs formalities.
  • Maintain accurate vehicle log books and report on mechanical status to ensure efficient vehicle use.
  • Coordinate vehicle maintenance and ensure vehicles are equipped with necessary travel authorizations and supplies.
  • Follow established rules for field deliveries and report any issues to the supervisor.
  • Perform basic office tasks such as filing and photocopying when required, providing administrative support to clients.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess the following qualifications:
  • Completion of Secondary School Education.
  • Formal driver’s training with a valid driver’s license/certification to operate assigned vehicles.
  • At least three years of relevant work experience as a driver, preferably in an international organization or UN system, with a demonstrated safe driving record.
  • Experience driving various types of vehicles, including vans and trucks, is essential.
  • Knowledge of driving rules, safety standards, and local road conditions is required.
  • Ability to perform minor vehicle repairs and assess mechanical fitness is desirable.

Educational Background:
The educational requirement for this position includes the completion of Secondary School Education. Additionally, candidates must have formal driver’s training and hold a valid driver’s license that complies with local regulations. This educational background ensures that the driver is equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to operate vehicles safely and efficiently.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of three years of relevant work experience as a driver. This experience should preferably be within an international organization, embassy, or UN system. A proven safe driving record is essential, along with experience in driving a variety of vehicles, including vans and trucks. Familiarity with defensive driving techniques is also desirable, as it enhances the safety of both the driver and passengers.

Languages:
Proficiency in both oral and written communication in English and Swahili is mandatory for this position. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not required.
