Job Overview: The coordinator" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Technical Coordinator will play a pivotal role in leading the Project Management Unit (PMU) within the FAO Representation in Kenya. This position is crucial for managing the day-to-day operations of the project, ensuring that all outputs are delivered with high quality, within the approved scope, budget, and timeline. The Technical Coordinator will facilitate coordination among various stakeholders, including government entities and other partners, to ensure that the project aligns with national priorities and effectively addresses climate change adaptation. The role requires a strong focus on technical coherence and operational efficiency, as well as the ability to promote inclusive participation from diverse groups, including women and youth.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Technical Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing and managing grant delivery, ensuring adherence to project scope, budget, and timelines. Key responsibilities include coordinating inputs from consultants and service providers, preparing annual and quarterly work plans in consultation with stakeholders, acting as Secretary to the Project Steering Committee (PSC), providing technical guidance for project outputs, and ensuring the logical flow of interdependent activities. The Coordinator will also oversee the development of county climate adaptation plans, monitor project progress and risks, prepare progress and completion reports, maintain transparent reporting systems, and facilitate effective communication among project partners. Additionally, the Coordinator will support the organization of workshops and consultations, identify potential implementation challenges, and report any delays or difficulties promptly.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in environmental science, climate studies, natural resource management, or a closely related field from a recognized university. A minimum of five years of progressive work experience in climate change adaptation planning or related work is required. Candidates must also have a working knowledge of English and Kiswahili at level C and must be nationals of Kenya. The role demands strong competencies in results focus, teamwork, communication, building effective relationships, and knowledge sharing.
Educational Background: The position requires a Master’s degree in a relevant field such as environmental science, climate studies, or natural resource management from an accredited institution. It is essential that the educational qualifications are recognized by the World Higher Education Database (WHED).
Experience: The ideal candidate should have at least five years of progressive work experience in areas related to climate change adaptation planning and implementation. This experience should demonstrate a strong understanding of multi-stakeholder project management and the ability to engage with various stakeholders effectively.
Languages: Proficiency in English and Kiswahili is mandatory for this position, with a working knowledge at level C being required. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not mandatory.
