Job Overview:
The UNEP Communications Division is seeking a dynamic self-starter to support outreach and engagement for key campaigns and editorial content. The consultant will work under the supervision of the Head Writer and will be responsible for enhancing UNEP's visibility and impact through effective communication strategies. This role involves identifying and recruiting influencers for campaigns, producing multimedia content, developing partnerships, and identifying opportunities for UNEP’s science and content dissemination. The consultant will play a crucial role in amplifying UNEP's core messages and increasing the organization's presence in both local and international media.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will have a variety of duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to:
  • Identifying and supporting the recruitment of influencers for World Environment Day and related campaigns to maximize reach and engagement.
  • Producing multimedia content that supports UNEP campaigns, ensuring that the content is engaging and aligns with UNEP's messaging.
  • Developing partnerships that enhance the effectiveness of UNEP campaigns, fostering collaboration with various stakeholders.
  • Identifying opportunities for UNEP’s science and content to be featured in media and other platforms.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned by the Head Writer, contributing to the overall objectives of the Communications Division.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communication, social sciences, or a related field. A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience is required, demonstrating a strong background in communications and media engagement. Candidates should have excellent knowledge of social media and its strategic use for communication purposes, as well as a solid understanding of the media landscape and effective pitching strategies. Strong organizational and planning skills are essential, along with the ability to multitask and deliver results in a fast-paced environment. Excellent written, verbal, and visual communication skills are mandatory, and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary and multicultural team is desirable. Proven ability to generate innovative solutions will be an asset.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communication, social sciences, or a related field is required for this position. This educational background provides the necessary foundation for understanding the principles of effective communication and media engagement, which are critical for the role.

Experience:
Candidates are required to have a minimum of 3 years of experience in communications, media relations, or a related field. This experience should demonstrate a proven track record of successfully managing communication campaigns, engaging with media, and producing high-quality content that resonates with diverse audiences.

Languages:
Fluency in written and spoken English is required for this position, as English is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of French is also beneficial, as it is another working language of the UN, and proficiency in additional languages may enhance a candidate's suitability for the role.
