Job Overview:
The WASH Coordinator plays a crucial role in developing the strategy for Solidarités International in the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) sector. This position involves ensuring the quality and relevance of technical approaches and WASH activities in alignment with the needs of local populations. The WASH Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the project cycle, particularly the operational monitoring of WASH programs in the intervention country. This role also includes contributing to the capitalization process and improving SI's methods and techniques in the WASH field. The position is set against the backdrop of a humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where the need for effective WASH interventions is critical due to the ongoing conflict and displacement of populations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The WASH Coordinator's main responsibilities include:
  • Day-to-day management of emergency response activities related to WASH.
  • Providing strategic orientation for WASH projects.
  • Ensuring the relevance and quality of WASH projects.
  • Coordinating technical support and operational monitoring of WASH programs.
  • Contributing to the capitalization of experiences and lessons learned in WASH interventions.
  • Managing personnel involved in WASH activities.
  • Reporting on project progress and representing SI in relevant forums and meetings.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a BAC +5 degree in a WASH-related field. They should have a minimum of 5 years of experience in the humanitarian sector, with at least 0-2 years in similar positions. Specific skills required include a strong background in WASH emergency programming, the ability to lead program development processes, and experience in establishing bases and implementing hard WASH activities. Candidates should also have strong networking skills with external entities such as donors and other NGOs, and the capacity to quickly understand the humanitarian context of the country.

Educational Background:
The educational requirement for this position is a BAC +5 degree in a field related to Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH). This advanced degree is essential for understanding the complexities of WASH interventions in humanitarian settings and for developing effective strategies to address the needs of affected populations.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in the humanitarian sector, with specific experience in WASH programming. Candidates should have a proven track record of working in conflict zones, demonstrating the ability to manage teams under high-stress conditions and navigate the challenges associated with insecurity and difficult living conditions.

Languages:
Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in Arabic is considered an asset, as it would facilitate communication with local populations and stakeholders in the region.

Additional Notes:
This is a salaried position with a contract duration of 6 months, starting as soon as possible. The compensation package includes a gross monthly salary starting from EUR 2,860, which consists of a base salary of EUR 2,600 plus a 10% annual leave allowance paid monthly. Additionally, a monthly per diem of USD 750 is provided, along with coverage for accommodation costs and travel expenses between the expatriate's country of origin and the assignment location. The position includes a break system, allowing for 7 working days off every three months, with a USD 850 break allowance. Expatriates will also benefit from a comprehensive insurance package covering healthcare expenses, including medical, surgical, dental, and repatriation costs. Living conditions in Gaza are described as very harsh, with significant disruptions to basic services and high health risks, creating a challenging work environment.
