Job Overview:
The consultancy aims to revise the existing mentorship manuals for girls and boys to incorporate new plug-ins addressing mentorship in humanitarian and conflict settings, particularly in light of Mozambique's vulnerability to natural disasters and high rates of child marriage. The consultant will conduct a desk review of best practices, engage with stakeholders, and produce revised manuals that reflect the unique challenges faced in these settings. The role requires a comprehensive understanding of the context in Mozambique, particularly in the provinces of Nampula and Zambezia, where UNFPA has been implementing community-based interventions. The consultant will also be responsible for presenting the revised manuals to stakeholders and conducting training sessions for implementing partners.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will undertake a series of tasks including: conducting a desk review on best practices for adapting programs from development to humanitarian contexts; consulting with stakeholders in Mozambique and other humanitarian countries; revising the mentorship manuals to include plug-ins for humanitarian settings; proofreading and finalizing the manuals for print; presenting the revised manuals in a validation workshop; and conducting training sessions for key implementing partners in prioritized locations. The consultant will also be expected to submit a detailed work-plan at the inception of the assignment and report on progress weekly.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master’s Degree in social science, international relations, public health, gender/development studies, or a related field. They should have at least 7 years of relevant professional experience in program implementation and design related to adolescent sexual and reproductive health, youth development, and human rights in both development and humanitarian contexts. Strong communication, writing, and editing skills are essential, along with experience in drafting programmatic documents and familiarity with UNFPA’s style. Knowledge of issues related to adolescents and young people's sexual and reproductive health is highly desirable.

Educational Background:
A Master’s Degree in social science, international relations, public health, gender/development studies, or a related area is required for this consultancy position. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of the issues at hand and for effectively contributing to the development of the mentorship manuals.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 7 years of relevant professional experience. This experience should encompass the implementation and design of programs related to adolescent sexual and reproductive health, youth development, and human rights in both development and humanitarian contexts. Candidates should also have experience in communication, writing, and editing, particularly in drafting programmatic and advocacy documents based on research studies.

Languages:
Proficiency in both Portuguese and English is mandatory for this position. The ability to communicate effectively in these languages is essential for conducting consultations, engaging with stakeholders, and producing documentation. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not required.

The consultancy is expected to last for 60 working days, commencing on 17 March 2025 and concluding by 6 June 202
  • The consultant will work off-site but must be available for virtual meetings as required. Travel to Cabo Delgado and Nampula provinces is expected, with logistics covered by UNFPA. The remuneration for this consultancy is USD 24,000, paid in three tranches based on deliverables. The consultant will use their own equipment for the assignment, and the work will be delivered in Portuguese in electronic formats.
