Job Overview: The Programme Coordinator will play a crucial role in the implementation of the 'Tolerância Zero! À Violência Baseada no Género' initiative, which aims to combat Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) in Mozambique. This position requires a strategic leader who will ensure that the program aligns with the goals set by the European Union and UNFPA. The coordinator will manage daily operations, coordinate with government entities, and provide technical quality assurance to the implementing team. The role also involves engaging with implementing partners, supervising national officers, and liaising with donors on technical matters. The Programme Coordinator will be responsible for fostering collaboration among various stakeholders to ensure a comprehensive response to GBV, thereby contributing to the overall objective of protecting individuals from all forms of gender-based violence.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Programme Coordinator will be tasked with several key responsibilities, including:
Leading the implementation of the Tolerância Zero! initiative, ensuring alignment with program goals and objectives.
Developing and managing annual work plans, setting priorities, timelines, and targets for monitoring results.
Collaborating with other teams within UNFPA and external partners to ensure successful program implementation.
Providing capacity-building support to implementing partners and ensuring compliance with UN policies and guidelines.
Mentoring and coaching implementation staff at national and provincial levels.
Building partnerships with government ministries, donor partners, and civil society organizations to foster a holistic response to SGBV.
Supporting the development of communication strategies and advocacy efforts to promote the program's objectives.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced degree in social sciences, political science, development studies, gender studies, public health, or a related discipline. They should have at least five years of progressively responsible professional experience in gender equality and/or SGBV. Experience with EU-funded programs is highly desirable, along with proven experience in managing large-scale programs and multidisciplinary teams. Strong communication skills and the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders are essential. Knowledge of emergency and crisis contexts is an advantage, as is prior experience within the UN system or specifically with UNFPA.
Educational Background: An advanced degree in relevant fields such as social sciences, political science, development studies, gender studies, or public health is required for this position. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of gender issues and the socio-political landscape in which the program operates.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of five years of relevant professional experience, particularly in the fields of gender equality and SGBV. Candidates should have a track record of managing large-scale programs and leading multidisciplinary teams. Experience working in emergency contexts and familiarity with the UN system will be considered advantageous.
Languages: Fluency in both English and Portuguese is mandatory for this role, as effective communication with various stakeholders is critical for the success of the program.
