Job Overview: The position of Online Volunteer for the Sustainable Energy Academy involves supporting the Academy in updating and refining statistical content, infographics, and datasets for its e-learning modules. Volunteers will play a crucial role in ensuring data accuracy, enhancing contextual clarity, and preparing visualization-ready datasets that align with the Sustainable Energy Hub’s integrated Energy for Development approach. This role is essential for the Academy's mission to create a strong global community of experts and practitioners in energy as an enabler for development, connecting energy with critical nexus topics such as water management, food resilience, finance, health, employment, social protection, climate, security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security, and gender equality. Volunteers will engage in a 10-week assignment that includes updating statistical data, revising infographics, preparing structured datasets, and collaborating with the SEH team to design compelling data narratives.
Duties and Responsibilities: Each volunteer will be responsible for the following tasks during the 10-week assignment:
Update and validate statistical data across three e-learning modules to reflect the latest sustainable energy trends and SDG 7 targets.
Revise over five static infographics, adding explanatory footnotes and contextual insights to improve accessibility for policymakers and practitioners.
Prepare structured datasets (20-26 datasets) that are compatible with the UNDP Data Viz Library’s requirements, ensuring proper formatting and adherence to metadata standards for seamless integration into interactive charts.
Collaborate with the SEH team to design data narratives that highlight the intersection of energy with water, finance, gender equality, and climate resilience, utilizing the UNDP library’s visualization templates.
Conduct quality checks to ensure that datasets and visuals adhere to UNDP’s accessibility and open-data principles.
Required Qualifications: The ideal candidates for this position should possess expertise in data analysis, research, and technical writing. They should have a strong understanding of sustainable energy trends and the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG
Additionally, candidates should demonstrate proficiency in data visualization and familiarity with UNDP’s accessibility and open-data principles. Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a remote environment are essential.
Educational Background: Candidates are expected to have a background in fields related to data analysis, environmental science, sustainable development, or a related discipline.
