Job Overview:
The UN Volunteer position involves supporting UNICEF's mission in Sri Lanka, particularly in the implementation of the Sustainability and Climate Action Plan and related projects. The role requires coordination and communication skills to assist in organizing program activities, meetings, and workshops. The volunteer will also be responsible for monitoring the progress of activities outlined in the annual work plan and budget, ensuring effective collaboration with various partners, including government agencies and local organizations. The position is crucial for facilitating UNICEF's efforts to create an environment where every child can thrive and fulfill their potential amidst complex challenges.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist in coordinating and supporting logistic arrangements for program activities, including meetings, workshops, and training sessions.
  • Take minutes and prepare reports for meetings, workshops, and field visits.
  • Monitor the implementation of activities in the annual work plan and budget, organizing progress review meetings with relevant government agencies.
  • Follow up with various sections on the implementation of joint work plans and organize necessary meetings.
  • Coordinate with HR, IT, Admin, and Supply sections to ensure timely provision of supplies and logistics.
  • Provide necessary data and information for budget-related reports and communications.
  • Act as a focal point for administrative coordination of WASH and Climate Change program implementation, processing requests and documentation.
  • Participate in meetings and workshops, coordinating activities with government partners, UN agencies, and other stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates should possess strong organizational and communication skills, with a commitment to UNICEF's mission and values. Professionalism, teamwork, and respect for diversity are essential. The ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders and manage multiple tasks effectively is crucial. A genuine commitment to voluntary engagement principles, including solidarity and self-reliance, is also required.

Educational Background:
A relevant educational background in social sciences, international development, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should have a solid understanding of child rights and development issues, particularly in the context of Sri Lanka.

Experience:
Candidates should have prior experience in program support, coordination, or administration, preferably within the UN system or NGOs. Experience working with government agencies and local partners is an asset. Familiarity with WASH and Climate Change projects is desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Sri Lanka is an advantage, as it facilitates communication with local partners and stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This is a national UN Volunteer assignment, meaning the volunteer will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. The position is full-time and may require flexibility in working hours to accommodate meetings and activities with various stakeholders.
