Job Overview: The National ProgrammeCoordinator will oversee the project titled 'Ending the Scourge of Gender-Based Violence and Sorcery Accusation Related Violence in Papua New Guinea.' This project aims to provide survivors of GBV and SARV with access to quality support services and to prevent such violence through social norm changes. The coordinator will manage the project for 48 months, ensuring effective implementation in collaboration with national and sub-national government agencies, civil society organizations, and academic institutions. The role requires a focus on sexual and reproductive health, gender equality, and community engagement to influence stakeholders and achieve UNFPA's mandate. The coordinator will also be responsible for monitoring project outcomes and adapting strategies to meet the evolving needs of the communities served.
Duties and Responsibilities: The National Programme Coordinator will be responsible for several key areas:
Programme Management and Coordination: Oversee the implementation of the project, ensuring compliance with corporate policies and procedures. Coordinate with government agencies and partners to manage the project effectively, monitor progress, and provide guidance on UNFPA policies.
Policy Dialogue and Technical Support: Engage in policy discussions with government and development partners to advocate for the inclusion of the ICPD agenda in national strategies. Represent UNFPA at high-level meetings and contribute to the development of integrated strategies.
Advocacy, Partnerships, and Resource Mobilization: Build partnerships with various stakeholders to support UNFPA's goals. Prepare advocacy materials and engage in resource mobilization efforts to secure funding for maternal health and gender-based violence initiatives.
Office Management & Leadership: Establish accountability systems for resource management and promote a culture of integrity and respect within the team. Supervise project staff and foster a learning environment to enhance performance and capacity building.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master's degree in Social Sciences, Gender/Women’s Studies, Community Development, or a related field. They should have at least seven years of experience in program/project coordination, with a minimum of five years specifically focused on gender issues and harmful practices. Experience working in Papua New Guinea or the Pacific region is advantageous. Candidates must demonstrate meticulous attention to detail and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential for effective collaboration with diverse stakeholders.
Educational Background: A Master's degree in a relevant field such as Social Sciences, Gender/Women’s Studies, or Community Development is required. This educational background should provide a solid foundation for understanding the complexities of gender-based violence and community development issues.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of seven years of program/project coordination experience, with at least five years dedicated to gender-related issues, particularly in the context of GBV and harmful practices. Experience working with UN agencies or similar organizations is preferred, as is familiarity with the socio-political landscape of Papua New Guinea.
Languages: Fluency in oral and written English is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages relevant to the local context may be considered an asset, enhancing communication with diverse communities.
