Job Overview: The National Coordinator position in Papua New Guinea is a pivotal role based in Port Moresby, responsible for a range of national coordination and liaison duties. The incumbent will support the ILO Country Office for Pacific Island Countries (CO-Suva) and the ILO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific in implementing the Decent Work Country Programme (DWCP) in Papua New Guinea. This role involves facilitating inter-agency information sharing, coordinating with various stakeholders, and providing administrative support for technical cooperation activities. The National Coordinator will play a crucial role in promoting the ILO's Decent Work Agenda, which encompasses four strategic objectives: standards and fundamental principles and rights at work, employment promotion and enterprise development, social protection, and social dialogue. The incumbent will be responsible for coordinating operational and technical activities, supporting national counterparts, and responding to requests from constituents, all under the supervision of the Director of CO-Suva.
Duties and Responsibilities: The National Coordinator will have a comprehensive set of duties and responsibilities, including: serving as the primary operational and administrative contact for ILO constituents in the country; managing all program and administrative functions related to coordination and representation of the ILO; facilitating relationships between TC project staff and employers' and workers' organizations; participating in the formulation of national strategies related to the DWCP; reviewing and analyzing country-specific development plans and socioeconomic data; contributing to program/project development and drafting national concept papers; identifying problems and proposing solutions; preparing seminars, workshops, and training sessions; promoting ILO activities through public information materials; participating in policy dialogue and technical consultations; briefing ILO specialists and visiting officials; actively participating in UNCT meetings; and performing other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a first-level university degree in a relevant field, with a master's degree in a social or economic field considered an advantage. The position requires a high standard of conduct, adherence to ILO norms and core values, and a good understanding of program and budget management, project formulation, administration, and evaluation techniques. Knowledge of UN system activities and financial regulations is essential, along with excellent drafting and communication skills, both orally and in writing. Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a first-level university degree in a relevant field.
