Job Overview: The Shelter Assistant will play a crucial role in the daily operations of the accommodation centers for unaccompanied migrant children (UMC) in Greece. This position involves providing direct support and care to UMCs, ensuring their basic needs are met, and facilitating access to various services such as legal counseling, medical support, and educational programs. The Shelter Assistant will work closely with the Shelter Coordinator and social workers to implement individualized care plans for each child, ensuring a safe and supportive environment. The role requires a compassionate approach to working with vulnerable children and a commitment to upholding their rights and dignity.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in the daily operations of the shelter, following the guidance of the Shelter Coordinator and other responsible staff.
Implement individual daily programs for beneficiaries in collaboration with social workers.
Escort children to necessary social and medical services.
Provide guidance on personal hygiene, cleanliness, and home economy.
Monitor and report on the adequacy of supplies such as hygiene items, clothing, and stationery.
Ensure the safety and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security of children at all times, including during night shifts and weekends.
Maintain accurate records of minors and visitors entering and exiting the shelter.
Handle crisis situations effectively, ensuring timely communication with on-call staff.
Educate minors on the proper use and respect for shelter facilities and equipment. 1
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Shelter Coordinator or Project Coordinator.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, with preference given to those who have attended accredited institutions recognized by UNESCO. Experience or training in child protection, particularly regarding unaccompanied minors, is essential. Familiarity with direct assistance to migrants and refugees, especially children, is highly desirable. Previous experience in a similar role is preferred, along with a demonstrated ability to work in multicultural environments and with diverse populations. A valid driver's license with at least five years of driving experience is considered an asset.
Educational Background: A high school degree from Greece or proof of attendance at a recognized foreign school is required. Candidates must have graduated from accredited institutions listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.
Experience: Candidates should have relevant experience or training in areas related to child protection, vulnerability management, and the integration of recognized beneficiaries of international protection. Experience working with diverse populations and cultural sensitivity is crucial, along with a willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Positive records of previous experience in similar roles will be highly regarded.
Languages: Fluency in Greek (both written and oral) is mandatory for all applicants. Working knowledge of English, French, or any other language is considered an asset. Proficiency in the required languages will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
