The Horn Of Africa Multi-country Office (HAMCO) was established in 2009 and operates from its main office in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. It manages a diverse portfolio of engagements across four countries in the Horn of Africa: Ethiopia, Djibouti, Sudan, and South Sudan. The organization focuses on providing essential services in Infrastructure, Procurement, Project Management, Human Resources, and Fund Management across various sectors, including Health, Education, Agriculture, and Resilient Infrastructure. UNOPS aims to support countries and assist people in need by delivering on its mandate, which includes infrastructure development and project management. With a commitment to building on its global experience, UNOPS has initiated several infrastructure projects in collaboration with priority partners in the region.

Job Overview:
The Partnerships Intern position at UNOPS is designed to provide support to the Horn of Africa Multi-country Office. The intern will work under the guidance of the Partnerships Specialist and will be involved in various tasks that contribute to business development, communication, and project support. This role is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to gain hands-on experience in an international setting, particularly in the areas of business development and communication. The intern will assist in researching trends and opportunities related to the Ethiopia business development strategy, support market research, and help draft proposals. Additionally, the intern will contribute to the development of communication tools and materials, thereby gaining valuable insights into the workings of a dynamic international organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Partnerships Intern will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities that include:
  • Business Development Support: - Assisting in updating the Business Strategy to enhance UNOPS' portfolio. - Supporting the identification of new business development opportunities by researching client needs and UNOPS' value proposition. - Gathering background information on potential partners and opportunities, and developing partner profiles. - Analyzing industry trends and their relevance to business development processes. - Identifying potential partnerships and developing action plans for business acquisition. - Creating content for promotional materials and drafting sections of proposals and concept notes. - Preparing presentations and supporting materials for partner meetings. - Organizing promotional events and high-level meetings. - Monitoring business acquisition progress and managing communication with potential partners. - Providing documentation support, including meeting notes and activity reports.
  • Communication Support: - Assisting the Communications and Advocacy teams with various projects. - Liaising with external vendors to ensure deliverables meet UNOPS standards. - Supporting event management activities and maintaining data systems. - Updating the UNOPS website and social media channels, and drafting newsletters.
  • Research Support: - Producing reports, surveys, and other research deliverables. - Collecting and analyzing data on trends to inform decision-making.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Partnerships Intern position should possess the following qualifications: - Currently enrolled in a university degree program or have graduated within the last three years at the time of application. - Preferably studying or having completed a degree in Marketing Management, Public Relations, Political Science, or related fields. - Skills in researching, writing, and editing content that is clear and effectively conveys key messages are considered an asset. - Fluency in written, spoken, and reading English is required, and knowledge of an additional UN official language is a plus.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes being currently enrolled in or having recently graduated from a university degree program. The preferred fields of study include Marketing Management, Public Relations, Political Science, or related areas. This educational foundation is essential for the intern to effectively contribute to the tasks and responsibilities outlined in the job description.

Experience:
The position does not require prior professional work experience. However, candidates should possess skills in researching, writing, and editing content that is clear and concise. These skills will be beneficial in effectively conveying key messages to target audiences, which is a critical aspect of the role.

Languages:

Additional Notes:
This internship is classified as a 6-month contract and is not designed to lead to a permanent staff position with UNOPS. Interns may receive a monthly stipend, provided they do not receive funds from other institutions. Additionally, UNOPS may offer a one-time travel lump sum of 500 USD. Interns are responsible for their own accommodation, travel, and visa arrangements.
