Job Overview: The position is part of the 'Indo-German Support Project for Climate Action in India', which is a key policy initiative of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK). This project is implemented under the International Climate Initiative (IKI) and aims to support India's Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change (MoEFCC) in executing the country's climate and biodiversity policies. The intern will be involved in developing innovative approaches to implement India's Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and will work on various aspects of climate action, including net-zero initiatives in selected industrial sectors, cooperation opportunities with Indian states, and international climate finance.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will have a range of responsibilities, including but not limited to: working on net-zero strategies in selected industrial sectors in India, identifying cooperation opportunities with Indian states, collaborating with energy partnerships, engaging in discussions around the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), and contributing to the development of the Indian carbon market. The role will also involve opportunities for exchange with Germany and Europe, particularly in the context of climate cooperation focused on youth engagement.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should possess international political experience and have pursued international studies in fields such as economics, climate change, energy, or global governance. Additionally, familiarity with economic modeling techniques, such as using SPSS, is required. The ideal candidate should demonstrate a strong understanding of climate policies and their implications for sustainable development.
Educational Background: Applicants must be currently enrolled in a degree program or in a continuing education program that requires an internship as an integral part of the curriculum. Alternatively, candidates who have graduated no more than six months prior to the start of the internship are also eligible to apply.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have relevant international political experience, which may include internships, volunteer work, or academic projects related to climate change, energy policy, or global governance. This experience should demonstrate the candidate's ability to engage with complex policy issues and contribute to meaningful projects.
Languages: Proficiency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of Hindi is considered an advantage, as it will facilitate communication and collaboration within the Indian context.

The monthly stipend for interns is €2,205.04 (gross), with an additional monthly allowance based on the country of deployment, as determined by GIZ.
