Job Overview: The Communication Specialist position is crucial for the effective communication of FAO projects, particularly the GEF 6 project in India. The role involves developing and maintaining communication materials that ensure brand consistency and visibility for FAO initiatives. The specialist will be responsible for designing and producing various visibility materials, including digital, print, and audio-visual content. Additionally, the role requires supporting content development through drafting, editing, and reviewing reports and policy papers. The specialist will also train and mentor state-level communication affiliates and coordinate video production and advocacy events. The position demands travel to project locations for documentation purposes and facilitating knowledge sharing among stakeholders through various channels.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Communication Specialist will undertake a variety of tasks, including: developing and maintaining communication materials for FAO projects; designing and producing visibility materials for the GEF 6 project; supporting content development by drafting and reviewing reports and policy papers; training and mentoring state-level communication affiliates; coordinating video production and advocacy events; undertaking mission travel for documentation; facilitating knowledge sharing among project states; managing the approval process for communication products; developing project-specific updates for FAO India’s website and social media; and collaborating on video production and designcoordination with external agencies. Additionally, the specialist will manage social media channels, ensuring compliance with FAO guidelines and preparing a monthly content calendar.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master Level degree in social science, journalism, communications, public relations, design, or related fields. They should have at least three years of relevant experience in interdisciplinary research and in developing media and communication materials, particularly for web publishing and information management. A working knowledge of English is essential, and candidates must be nationals of India. Furthermore, candidates should demonstrate core competencies such as results focus, teamwork, communication, building effective relationships, and knowledge sharing.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Master Level degree in relevant fields such as social science, journalism, communications, public relations, or design. This advanced degree is essential for understanding the complexities of communication within the context of FAO's mission and projects.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of three years of relevant experience in interdisciplinary research and developing media and communication materials. Candidates should have experience in preparing press releases, news articles, and advocacy messages for various media outlets. Familiarity with UN agencies and their regulations is considered an asset, as is experience in managing social media accounts.
