Job Posting Organization:
The United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO) was established on May 29, 1948, following the United Nations security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security Council resolution 50 (1948). Its mission is to observe and maintain ceasefires and assist in the supervision of the 1949 Armistice Agreements in the region. UNTSO operates in five countries: Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, and the Syrian Arab Republic. Job Overview:
The Human Resources Assistant position is located within the Human Resources Unit at UNTSO Headquarters in Jerusalem. The role involves supporting the HR functions of the organization, including the preparation of job openings, reviewing applicants, conducting reference checks, and assisting with the scheduling of candidate assessments. The HR Assistant will also provide guidance to staff on HR policies and procedures, process entitlements and benefits, and assist in the budget process. This position requires a proactive approach to HR management and a commitment to maintaining high standards of professionalism and efficiency in all tasks.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Human Resources Assistant will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: preparing job openings in accordance with classified job descriptions, reviewing applicants to ensure eligibility, initiating reference checks for academic and employment verifications, preparing offers of appointment, scheduling assessments for candidates, advising staff on HR policies and procedures, processing entitlements and benefits actions in the Umoja system, monitoring staff conditions of service, conducting research on HR matters, providing general office support, drafting correspondence, and assisting with classification requests. The role may also involve additional duties as required by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Excellent computer skills are essential, along with knowledge of UN HRIS applications such as UMOJA or ERP. A valid driver’s license in Jerusalem is desirable, as is a good understanding of UN Staff Rules and Regulations. Supplemental training in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems and coursework in human resources are also desirable qualifications for this position.

Educational Background:
The minimum educational requirement for this position is a high school diploma or equivalent. Candidates with additional training or certification in human resources or related fields will be viewed favorably. Proficiency in computer applications relevant to HR functions is also required.

Experience:
A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in human resources management, administrative services, or a related area is required. Experience in applying UN Staff Rules and Regulations in an operational environment, particularly in administering entitlements and benefits, is highly desirable. Candidates should demonstrate a strong background in HR practices and procedures.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is required, as English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. A working knowledge of spoken and written Arabic and Hebrew is desirable, as it will enhance communication within the diverse environment of the UN.

Additional Notes:
This position is subject to local recruitment, meaning that applicants must be authorized to work in Jerusalem. Candidates selected from outside the duty station will be responsible for their relocation expenses.
