Job Overview:
The intern will work under the supervision of the Financial Products team within the SME Finance & Development Group. The primary purpose of this role is to support joint advisory and finance programs aimed at enhancing SME development and financial inclusion. The intern will be involved in various tasks including data gathering, research, and providing background information for project preparation and monitoring. Additionally, the intern will assist team members in fundraising efforts to mobilize resources from bilateral and multilateral donors, organize events and workshops, coordinate between different teams and external consultants, and prepare outreach materials and briefings as needed. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the financial sector while contributing to meaningful projects that impact SMEs in emerging markets.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Contribute to the development of blended finance products aimed at supporting SME development and financial inclusion.
  • Conduct data gathering and research to provide background information for project preparation and monitoring.
  • Assist in fundraising efforts to mobilize adequate resources from bilateral and multilateral donors.
  • Organize and support the management of upcoming events or workshops in the EBRD region of operation.
  • Facilitate active coordination between different teams within the EBRD and with external consultants.
  • Prepare outreach materials and ad-hoc briefings as required.
  • Draft specific portions of EBRD documents and correspondence as assigned.
  • Undertake ad hoc assignments as requested by supervisors.

Required Qualifications:
  • A passion for learning and growing within the EBRD.
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Microsoft Excel.
  • Proven analytical and numerical skills.
  • Very good written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including effective communication abilities.
  • Ability to work well within a team and independently.
  • Relevant experience in business finance or related fields ranging from 6 months to 3 years.
  • A good relevant degree from a leading university, preferably in Economics, Finance, Business, or Development Studies.
  • Computer literacy and a good understanding of financial inclusion issues affecting SMEs in emerging markets. 1
  • Some relevant commercial experience is desirable.

This educational background will provide the necessary foundation for understanding the complexities of financial products and SME development.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have between 6 months to 3 years of relevant experience in business finance or related fields. This experience will help the intern to effectively contribute to the team's objectives and understand the dynamics of financial inclusion and SME development.

Languages:
The mandatory language for this position is English, with strong written and verbal communication skills required. While not mandatory, proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly those relevant to the EBRD's operational regions.

This internship is a 6-month contract position specifically available for Japanese nationals.
