The organization is administered by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and reports to the UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS Executive Board. UNV operates in numerous countries, focusing on enhancing the impact of volunteerism in addressing global challenges.

Job Overview:
The Online Volunteer position is crucial for enhancing the UNV's roster of volunteers, particularly in the Caribbean region, which has faced increasing emergencies and natural disasters. The volunteer will engage in extensive online research to develop a comprehensive database of organizations that can provide support during emergencies. This includes identifying medical and nursing schools, public health programs, and disaster relief organizations. The role requires the volunteer to categorize and structure the information in an Excel file, ensuring it is easily accessible for UN agencies like the World Food Program (WFP) and the Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO). The volunteer will also participate in weekly meetings with the UNV Coordinating Team to align on objectives and ensure the database meets the needs of emergency preparedness and response efforts.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct online research to identify organizations that can support UN efforts in disaster preparedness and response.
  • Develop a structured database in Excel format, categorizing organizations by theme and country.
  • Collect detailed information about each organization, including full names, titles, affiliations, LinkedIn profiles, and other social media handles for key personnel.
  • Propose an efficient tagging system within the Excel file to facilitate the selection of organizations and individuals for specific emergency responses.
  • Ensure the database is user-friendly and accessible for quick reference by UN agencies.
  • Attend weekly meetings with the UNV Coordinating Team to discuss progress and receive guidance on the assignment.

Required Qualifications:
  • Strong research skills and proficiency in using online databases and resources.
  • Excellent organizational skills to manage and categorize large amounts of information.
  • Familiarity with Excel and data management practices.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with the UNV Coordinating Team.

Educational Background:
A background in social sciences, public health, international relations, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should have a solid understanding of volunteerism and its role in development and emergency response.

Experience:
Previous experience in research, data management, or volunteer coordination is highly desirable. Familiarity with emergency response frameworks and public health initiatives will be an advantage.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of additional languages spoken in the Caribbean region would be beneficial but not required.

Additional Notes:
This is a volunteer position, and the duration of the contract may vary based on project needs. The role is remote, allowing for flexibility in working hours. Volunteers will receive support and guidance from the UNV Coordinating Team throughout their assignment.
