Job Overview: The consultant will play a crucial role in supporting the Migrant Association for Co-Development (A.MI.CO.) Programme implemented by IOM COMED’s Migration and Development Unit. The primary focus of this position is to provide technical support and deliver in-person training on climate action, security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">food security, and environment-related topics to selected diaspora organizations based in Italy. The consultant will be responsible for developing training content, facilitating workshops, and ensuring that the training aligns with IOM's standards and approaches. This role requires a strong understanding of climate change and its implications for migration, as well as the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders. The consultant will also be expected to draft a final report summarizing the training outcomes, challenges faced, and recommendations for future initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities: The selected consultant will be responsible for the following tasks:
Participate in a preliminary coordination meeting with the IOM team to align on objectives and expectations.
Attend coordination meetings with target diaspora organizations to understand their needs and tailor the training accordingly.
Develop the content and materials for a training module, including case studies, focusing on fundamental topics such as climate change foundations, energy transition, food and water security, and climate justice.
Design and deliver a three-day tailor-made in-person training course that meets the needs of the participants and adheres to IOM’s standards.
Ensure ongoing coordination with IOM throughout the consultancy to align efforts and share progress.
Draft a final report that summarizes the training achievements, challenges encountered, and recommendations for future training initiatives.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a University Degree in Climate and Environmental Sciences, Engineering, Urban Planning, Agroforestry, Agronomy, or a related field. Alternatively, a degree in Social Studies, Development Studies, Political Science, Law, Economy, or a similar discipline, combined with relevant professional experience in climate change projects, is acceptable. Additionally, candidates should have at least 5 years of professional experience in climate change-related topics, demonstrating strong expertise in areas such as climate action, food security, energy transition, and disaster risk reduction. Experience in developing and delivering training sessions for adult education is essential, along with excellent communication and presentation skills. Familiarity with non-profit organizations and diaspora communities will be considered advantageous.
Educational Background: A University Degree in relevant fields such as Climate and Environmental Sciences, Engineering, Urban Planning, Agroforestry, Agronomy, or related disciplines is required. Candidates with degrees in Social Studies, Development Studies, Political Science, Law, Economy, or similar fields, accompanied by significant professional experience in climate change-related projects, will also be considered. The educational background should reflect a strong foundation in environmental science and its intersection with social and economic factors.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in climate change-related topics. Candidates should have demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following areas: climate change, climate action, food security, energy transition, ecosystem services, nature-based solutions, waste management, urban ecology, disaster risk reduction, and international climate negotiations. Experience in developing and delivering training workshops, particularly for adult education, is crucial. Additionally, prior experience working with non-profit organizations and knowledge of diaspora communities will be beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in written and spoken Italian and English is mandatory for this position. Candidates with a working knowledge of French and/or Spanish will be considered advantageous, as IOM's official languages include English, French, and Spanish. Language proficiency will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments to ensure effective communication with diverse stakeholders.
Additional Notes: The consultancy will require travel within Italy as needed. The appointment is subject to funding confirmation and the candidate's medical fitness for the role. IOM provides coverage against occupational accidents and illnesses under the Compensation Plan for the duration of the consultancy. However, consultants are responsible for their own medical insurance for non-occupational accidents or illnesses.
