Job Overview:

The intern will support the PBSO's initiatives aimed at fostering partnerships with International Financial Institutions and advancing the Secretary-General's agenda on peacebuilding and sustaining peace. The role involves conducting background research, data analysis, and preparing documents that contribute to the office's objectives. Interns will have the opportunity to engage in various UN mechanisms and coordination platforms, participate in meetings, and assist in organizing dialogues with civil society organizations. Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a range of tasks, including: 1) Supporting PBSO's efforts to partner with International Financial Institutions on prevention and peacebuilding initiatives; 2) Assisting in advancing the Secretary-General's agenda on peacebuilding and the Youth, Peace and Security agenda through research, data analysis, and document preparation; 3) Preparing background and analytical materials related to peacebuilding, including drafting meeting summaries and supporting engagements of senior officials; 4) Participating in UN mechanisms and coordination platforms to promote an integrated approach to peacebuilding; 5) Supporting relevant meetings of the Peacebuilding Commission and assisting with the management of the Peacebuilding Fund; 6) Coordinating and organizing the Annual UN-Civil Society Organizations Dialogue; 7) Performing other related duties as required, while gaining independent experience on substantive issues and assisting colleagues in daily operations.

Required Qualifications:
To qualify for this internship, applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level); or (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above). While professional work experience is not required, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Additionally, applicants must provide proof of their academic status and may need to submit an official certificate later in the application process.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be pursuing or have completed a degree in a relevant field, such as international relations, political science, peace studies, or a related discipline. The internship is open to students in the final year of their first university degree program (Bachelor's or equivalent) or those enrolled in a Master's or Ph.D. program. Proof of enrollment or graduation must be provided as part of the application process.

Experience:
No prior professional work experience is required for this internship. However, candidates should have relevant academic experience or coursework that aligns with the responsibilities of the internship. This may include research projects, volunteer work, or other academic engagements related to peacebuilding or international relations.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this internship, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations. Knowledge of an additional official UN language, such as French, Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish, is considered an advantage and may enhance the candidate's application.

Additional Notes:
This internship is unpaid and requires a full-time commitment of 35 hours per week, although part-time arrangements (20 hours per week) and remote work options may be available based on the candidate's needs. The expected duration of the internship is six months, with a desired start date of April 14, 2025, or sooner. Interns are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses. The United Nations does not charge any fees during the recruitment process, and applicants must ensure they have the necessary work authorization for the internship location.
