Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be responsible for the following duties and responsibilities:
Conduct a comprehensive review of existing methods for qualitative testing of explosives containing TNT.
Develop and validate new methodologies using GCMS techniques to ensure accurate detection and analysis of explosives.
Prepare detailed documentation of the validation process, including protocols, results, and recommendations.
Collaborate with UNDP staff and other experts to ensure that the methodologies align with international best practices.
Provide training and guidance to laboratory personnel on the validated methods and their application.
Participate in meetings and discussions with stakeholders to present findings and recommendations.
Ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations during the testing processes.
Submit progress reports and a final report summarizing the validation process and outcomes.
Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate must possess the following qualifications:
A degree in chemistry, forensic science, or a related field.
Extensive knowledge and experience in explosives testing and analysis, particularly with TNT.
Proven expertise in using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GCMS) for qualitative analysis.
Familiarity with international standards and regulations related to explosives testing.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with diverse teams.
Educational Background: Candidates must have a minimum of a bachelor's degree in chemistry, forensic science, or a closely related discipline. A master's degree or higher in a relevant field is preferred and may enhance the candidate's suitability for the role. Additional certifications or training in explosives analysis or laboratory management would be advantageous.
Experience: The consultant should have a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in the field of explosives testing and analysis. Experience working with international organizations or in a consultancy capacity is highly desirable. The candidate should demonstrate a track record of successfully validating testing methods and contributing to safety and compliance in laboratory settings.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as all documentation and communication will be conducted in this language. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly those relevant to the region, would be considered an asset but is not required.
Additional Notes: This consultancy position is for a fixed period from 31 March 2025 to 12 May 2025, encompassing a total of 11 consultancy days. The consultant will be engaged on an individual contractor basis, and the work is expected to be conducted remotely or on-site as required. The position is part-time, and the consultant will be compensated based on the agreed terms outlined in the contract.
