Job Overview: The Political Affairs Officer will manage the Research and Liaison Unit within the UNOCC, focusing on planning and resource prioritization. Duties and Responsibilities: The Political Affairs Officer will be responsible for managing the Research and Liaison Unit, overseeing planning and resource allocation. The officer will provide integrated analysis of events, prepare reports for the General Assembly and Security Council, draft notes and speeches, and analyze data to identify trends. Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in political science, international relations, law, or related fields. Direct experience in data analysis and analytics is required, along with supervisory team experience. Knowledge of political, social, economic, and humanitarian issues in affected countries is essential. The ability to analyze and interpret data for decision-making is crucial, as is the capacity to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with colleagues.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in political science, international relations, international economics, law, public administration, or a related area is required. A first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. Completion of programs in data analytics or related fields is advantageous.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in relevant fields, including two years of direct experience in data analysis and analytics, with a proven ability to produce visualizations. Supervisory experience is also necessary, with at least two years in a leadership role. Field experience is desirable but not mandatory.
Languages: Fluency in both oral and written English is required, as English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of another official UN language is considered an advantage, enhancing the candidate's profile for the position.
