Job Overview: The position of Intern in the International Tax Compact (ITC) Secretariat is designed for individuals who are eager to contribute to the enhancement of domestic revenue mobilization (DRM) in partner countries. The ITC serves as a neutral platform that promotes fair, efficient, and transparent tax systems. Interns will be involved in networking, peer learning, and capacity development activities, engaging with a diverse group of stakeholders including policymakers, tax administrators, and representatives from academia and civil society. The intern will support the ITC, Addis Tax Initiative (ATI), and Network of Tax Organisations (NTO) secretariats in implementing activities outlined in their workplan, which includes facilitating cooperation within various committees, organizing international events, conducting research, and managing data for external communication.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: implementing and developing the Addis Tax Initiative (ATI) by facilitating cooperation within the ATI Steering Committee and Consultative Groups; supporting the Network of Tax Organisations (NTO) in line with its strategic goals; assisting in the organization and follow-up of the ATI General Assembly and other international events; conducting research and drafting various documents such as briefs and articles; managing data for communication and monitoring purposes; evaluating global developments in good financial governance; drafting communication materials for the ITC, ATI, and NTO; and supporting day-to-day administrative tasks within the ITC Secretariat and the Sector Programme Good Financial Governance.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a university degree equivalent to a bachelor’s degree or higher in fields such as economics, political science, public administration, law, or regional studies. A basic understanding and strong interest in policymaking, governance, tax policy, and international development cooperation are essential. The ability to work in an organized, structured, and detail-oriented manner is crucial, along with the capability to handle time pressure and complex issues effectively. Strong written and spoken English fluency is mandatory, while knowledge of French, Spanish, or German is advantageous. Proficiency in MS Office applications and strong communication skills are also required, along with experience in external communication, event management, and website administration being beneficial.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this internship includes a university degree that is equivalent to a bachelor’s degree or higher. This degree should ideally be in relevant disciplines such as economics, political science, public administration, law, or regional studies, which will provide the necessary foundation for understanding the complexities of tax policy and governance.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have some level of experience, particularly in areas related to external communication, event management, and network management. While specific years of experience are not mandated, any relevant experience in these fields will be considered a distinct advantage, enhancing the candidate's ability to contribute effectively to the ITC Secretariat's objectives.
Languages: Fluency in written and spoken English is a mandatory requirement for this position. Additionally, having good knowledge of other languages such as French, Spanish, or German is considered a distinct advantage, as it will facilitate communication with a broader range of stakeholders involved in international tax and governance discussions.
Additional Notes: This internship is a full-time position with a deployment period from April 15, 2025, to July 31, 2025, and the possibility of extension up to a maximum of six months. Candidates must be currently enrolled as students or have graduated no longer than six months prior to the start of the internship.
